Hi everybody- I have been so busy with getting ready for little one's birthday party that I just realized today makes 1 year of breastfeeding my little guy!! I don't have anybody in real life that understands how momentous this is, but I thought you would understand

So here's my story:
We had weight gain issues in the beginning and had formula thrown at me multiple times, but with the help of my mom and husband, we managed to spoon feed colostrum and give baby bottles of my milk to supplement instead of formula! Our little guy finally got back to birth weight around 3ish weeks. Then when I went back to work, little one refused to take a bottle which we eventually realized was because my milk has excess lipase activity and we were giving little one milk that tasted AWFUL

I had to get rid of my 100 oz. freezer stash that I worked so hard to stockpile and I had to scald my milk after EVERY pumping session to keep it from tasting bad (it tastes funky after 4 hours!). I pumped morning and night to rebuild my stash, all while adjusting to my new schedule of work and baby.
After that, the damage was done and he didn't ever want a bottle. We struggled to get him to eat while I was away, but he insisted on Mama and would wait until I got home and then nurse all night long to make up for it

More recently, we have transitioned to dairy free with the hopes that it will help with his eczema and that too has been bit of a challenge (but his skin is looking soooo much better!).
We are now at a year and although I longed for the days when I could stop pumping/scalding and looked forward to when he would nurse less often, I find him cutting out nursing sessions on his own and I miss those moments together. He still nurses morning, evening and overnight so I am sure we will continue for quite awhile, but my little baby is growing up

This breastfeeding journey has been harder than I ever anticipated, but I can't even put into words how wonderful it makes me feel to say that I overcame all those obstacles and helped my son grow big and strong
Thanks for reading if you made it this far! And to all you mamas who are still in the hard days of your breastfeeding journey, persevere because it is beyond worth it in the long run
