Old Clothes- Donate or Save

I have lost about 30lbs since I moved to England and many things I have from the last couple years just don't fit at all (aka pants just fall down).   I am feeling the need to do a binge clean and get rid of things as we barely have any space to begin with.   However I know when I get preggers I will be going back up a few sizes.... I was going to donate any of the cheaper/ones I don't like and keep only a few of the really nice pieces/dresses.  Or should I just pitch it all since it will never fit right when pregnant...

Re: Old Clothes- Donate or Save

  • First, congrats on a healthier you!!
Second, I would donate. I don't think they will fit correctly for a pregnancy, aside from maybe a couple dresses. Plus, the temptation is gone to "let" yourself gain the weight back if you know that you won't have any clothes that would fit. I dropped 25 pounds a few years ago (which is a lot for me since I'm 4'11"), and I donated all my bigger clothes.

  • I agree to keeping some bigger shirts and dresses as those may fit but donate the rest!

I lost 40lbs and am still going - I think a big cleanse would be so liberating!

  • Donate! You deserve new clothes when you get pregnant. Clothes that are too big all over will make you feel frumpy and not fit right.

  • I agree to donate most, but I'd hang on to a pair or two of pants just for post-pregnancy.  I lost about 25lbs between kids and it was nice not to have to go out and buy new jeans 2 sizes up again

  • I thought I could just wear bigger/looser clothes during pregnancy but I'm finding out they don't work. They just make me look lumpy and oddly shaled. There is a method to how maternity clothes fit a pregnant body. So agreeing with PP-- toss!

  • Congrats on the weight loss. Starting fresh is something I love to do...like the PP's a few shirts are good to keep..

I'd keep just a couple pairs of pants for after the baby while you're losing the weight and donate everything else.

Ditto this--having jeans a size or two bigger than I only needed for a few months was great. I was really tired of maternity wear after back to back pregnancies.
