Late Term and Child Loss

Test results...,

Hello ladies!! I got my results back from my blood test I had before the holidays. Everything was normal except that I have MTHFR and the doctor told me that I would need to take extra folic acid along with my prenatals I am still taking. Once I get pregnant again I'll start the baby aspirin which he said it wouldn't hurt for me to take it since they did see a clot in Olivia's cord. I'm glad to have an answer but it's like wow could extra folic acid and baby aspirin have saved my babies? I am currently on BC and will take it until maybe Mar or Apr so I can truly be ready to try again. We were given the green light so hubby is all about it. Love and hugs ladies!!!

Re: Test results...,

  • I'm glad you got some answers and have a plan in place for next time!  At least the solution seems to be a relatively simple one right now.  The "what if's" are difficult to deal with, but I hope you rest assured in the fact that if you could have, you would have done anything in your power to save your beautiful babies!  Lots of love to you, and wonderful healing thoughts <3

Like pp said, I know the "what if?" is hard to deal with, but I'm glad you have answers and a plan that will hopefully lead to your rainbow. My hope is that your doctor/doctors will also watch you very closely while pregnant as well. Love and hugs!

  • I am glad you got some answers. I also have MTHFR (compound one of the A gene and one of the other). I am on 4 mg extra of folic, B complex and baby aspirin. It's an easy treatment luckily. Thinking of you.
  • I'm glad the results came back with nothing major wrong. I hope this new plan will make all the difference and you will be bringing home a living baby soon! ((Hugs))

It is so hard, thinking there may have been one little thing that could have saved our children. But remember, with the information you were given, you took care of your children to the best of your ability.

I too have MTHFR. Honestly, I would talk to your dr about blood thinners as well. I know its possibly a big step, but the fact that they actually found a clot would make me want to take extra precautions. Just ask so that you get a better picture.

With mine, I takea regular prenantal, then extra folic acid and b complex. I take a baby aspirin and a daily shot of blood thinners (very small dose). And I have never had a clot. If you have any questions or would like more resources, PM me.

@noethola - is the folic acid and the b complex also for the clotting issues? We had testing done checking for a clotting disorder, everything can back normal, but my geneticist is still recommending I do a low dose aspirin with another pregnancy because my lipoprotein A was slightly elevated, which they say plays a part in blood clotting, although not much else is known about it. I'm just wondering if the folic acid and the b complex are for the same sort of thing?

  • @stefuge

Yes, taking extra folic acid and complex b vitamins are directly related to the clotting disorder. With MTHFR, you do not break the folic acid and complex b down as well, so supplementing with extra is medically supported. Since folic acid and b complex are so important to the baby's development and health, extra is taken so you make sure they get all they need!

  • Irons- I just found out I have MTHFR too...i am compound heterozygous.  My RE is discussing things in detail with me at my next appt but told me to keep taking my 4mg folic.  Glad you are getting some answers...on one hand I am so glad to have answers and on the other I am mad that all of this couldn't have been prevented.
