HELP!

LO has been sick since after Christmas with what seems to being going around with everyone. DH lovingly brought it home from work and had it first, then me, and now LO.

He is running a fever, LOTS of mucus (just showed up a couple days ago), some coughing, hasn't been eating very much for a few days, skipping out on his nightly bottle.

IDK what else to do. I've given him Tylenol and Hyland's Tiny Cold Tabs. Nothing is working. And I have a feeling that if I take him to the pedi, she is just going to tell me that's what is going around and there isn't much she can do for him.

Some days he seems to be getting better but it goes right back to him not feeling well.

What should I do?

Re: HELP!

  • I'd go to the pedi for peace of mind (even if he tells you there's nothing else you can do).

  • So sorry Z is so sick! When V had it, we did the humidifier, saline drops in his nose and squished it out before each bottle and bed. I did give him Motrin before bed thinking it might help any aches and pains (but it didnt seem to do much). As much as it killed me to do it because we moved backward in terms of sleeping, he slept with us propped up on pillows. Definitely helped.

I didn't push food, just let him eat anything he wanted. Fruits, veggies. I didn't push meat unless he wanted it. Tried to get an egg or a yogurt in him every day but he let me know when he wanted to eat. I did water down his milk a bit to help with mucus (although the 4 pedis in my group are split as to whether or not that's a myth). I also gave him pedialyte a few times a day instead of water.

It took V about 3 days to get over the worst and then a week and a half to get back to his "norm."

    Hope Z feels better quick!

Yes....and this too! Pedi was my first stop. Didn't want to mess around bc of the breathing issues from last time.

I am giving him a new medicine. It's an ibuprofen by PediCare. First night using it. I hope it helps. I am not forcing food. I let him eat whatever he feels like his tummy can handle. I hope this is the last of it. It took DH and I a few days to get over it. I just know it's hard on little man. I sit with him every night sweating my ass off with the hot shower running.

He doesn't constantly have a fever. He had one a few days ago, didn't have one, then he has one now. Does it have to be 3 consecutive days? And the fever has been no higher than 101.6

  • I would probably call the pedi and talk to the nurse. They can give you a better idea if it is something the doctor needs to look at.

We did similar to PPs when D had some allergy/sinus issues. Humidifer going nonstop, saline and sucker, elevated head of the bed, hang out in the steamy bathroom when DH took a shower, and offered fluids constantly.

  • we kinda had the same thing ... bought the hyland cough syrup and it seemed to really work BUT it was after 3 days of being ill so no way to know if THAT helped or the cough had run its cours... otherwise same as PP saline, suck the mucus and don't worry about the foods.. the baby will get the appetite back once they feel better (just like we do)

  • Thanks. I will def. call the nurse line at the pedi office.

I have been doing the saline and booger sucker.
Offering whatever he will eat and/or drink.
I can't do the bed because he moves A LOT.
    Warm baths with Daddy.

I'll keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully things will get better. I hate when he is sick. He's never been this sick.
