HELP! Black gums and lips

Help! My 7 month old daughter's lips and gums darkened all of a sudden. She used to have very pink lips and now they look burnt. Was battling with a rash all over her face and dry lips for some days. Had to use mupirocin(which didn't help), she was itching badly and was prescribed hydroxyzine. For her dried lips I used the Rite Aid tugaboos petroleum Jelly and now her gums have darkened. Pls help. Is this normal? Could this be caused from the ointment or hydroxyzine?

Ditto.  There MAY be an easy explanation but it's not one The Bump is qualified to give.  At all.

  • Thanks so much for the replies. Unfortunately, I went to the ped and she had no clue about it. Recommended me to a dermatologist. Not feeling really confident with her response. Need a new ped! Any good pediatrician and dermatologist in Union area? Please let me know.
  • Just because she didn't know what was going on doesn't mean she's not a good doctor. Being in the medical profession (I'm a veterinarian), I know that sometimes things come along that have you scratching your head, no matter how good of a doctor you are. The problem sounds very unusual to me, and I would actually be happy that she didn't brush it off and is trying to refer you to someone who is more likely to be able to help you.

This. Your pedi didn't try to brush it off and sent you to someone who may know more. No doctor will know everything! The dangerous doctors are the ones who act like they do.
