Pregnant after IF

Looking for sucess stories after recurring miscarriages!

I'm just peeking over from IF board to ask a question. Is there any sucess stories after dealing with recurring miscarriages? I'm just looking for some hope unfortunately. My history is my signature, but in short, I've now had 2 miscarriages in a row at 6 and 7 weeks and will be starting up the RPL work up and probably doing PGD with another IVF cycle. For those of you with successful stories after recurring miscarriages, what did they find out and how was it treated? Thank you in advance. Just having a bad day and was looking for stories that can cheer me up and give me hope!

Re: Looking for sucess stories after recurring miscarriages!

  • There is hope! I have definitely learned that we are all different, but similar! I had three mc's. 1st at 16 weeks was trisomy (they said just a bad egg). Other two are unknown at 9&5 wks. Only thing saw with testing was low AMH. I now am 18wks with twins! Hang in there and don't give up!

  • I don't know if I'll truly consider myself a success story until I take a baby home from the hospital- but I suppose I'm close enough.

Chemical pregnancy with our first IVF- didn't even make it to beta day. Then a loss at 6weeks from our first FET. Doc ran the big fancy RPL panel and came back with no real answers. So we did another FET and it was a flat out BFN. Did another IVF, BFN.

Doc re-ran the loss panels, changed up a few things (added metformin and baby aspirin) and my next FET saw me graduate from the RE finally. Unfortunately, my problems didn't stop there- we lost that pregnancy to incompetent cervix and preterm labor at 17 weeks.

Went back, did one last retrieval- froze everything since my FETs had better success rates, and transferred another two resulting in this pregnancy.

It's a process. First we had to get me pregnant, then get me past the first trimester, and now the goal is to keep me cooking- and as such I have a fancy stitch in my cervix and a weekly shot to prevent PTL. It's taken time- but it will be worth it to finally hold our Elisabeth this spring.

But my MIL managed to make it through 7 miscarriages to have her two children. She never got a diagnosis, just kept trying. Persistence paid off. :)

  • *hugs* I am so sorry for what you've been through!

I also had two miscarriages with donor embryos (from different donors, might I add. So it pointed to me even more in my mind...)

The third attempt I had pretty much written off altogether and was already making plans for traditional adoption. I had called agencies, lined up adoption portfolio photography, the works. The third time did work. I did have an RPL and they found MTHFR which was easily treatable. I'm not sure if it's the treatment of it or just luck that helped me find success the third time. I honestly didn't think it was possible. I was sure my body was destroying perfectly good embryos and would continue to do so.

I wish you all kinds of luck. Infertility and loss is the hardest thing I've ever been through times a hundred. You're a tough soldier!!! *hug*

  • Hi from a recent grad of this board. I gave birth in November after two losses. My RE did RPL after second loss. Nothing came back on it. Most Dr won't do testing until 3 losses because sadly it is not uncommon. My RE concluded it was just bad eggs. I was DOR. I was 39.
I also was active on pregnant after loss board and there were a lot of third Time The charm ladies like me.
    I hope you find success!

  • I am not a success story yet but I am almost 13w after 2 miscarriages.  RPL panel showed nothing so we just gave it another try.  There are lots of women on PGAL who have had success after losses.

  • I'm really sorry for your losses.  I know how heartbreaking and frustrating they are. I'm almost 18w so I'm hoping this is our successful pregnancy. We've had a long rough road with 3 prior losses.  Details in my siggy.  We have unexplained IF. First loss = blighted ovum. 2nd loss at 9 weeks = Trisomy 15.  Doctor said it was a fluke and not likely to repeat. Fast forward to our first IVF cycle and I had my third loss = ectopic in my right tube.

My doctor did not recommend RPL because all of my losses were so different.  He also said it can be expensive and doesn't always give you an answer.  Since we were in a shared risk program we just continued with FETs and the second one gave us this pregnancy. We did not do PGS or PGD because we would have had to drop out of the shared risk program.  I did take baby asprin with both of my FETs even though I don't have a diagnosis that suggests I need it.  It was just a precaution.

We are basically unexplained IF and unexplained repeat losses.  Just know that even if the testing doesn't turn up any answers there is still hope.  We have no idea why we we couldn't get or stay pregnant, but things seem to be working out ok so far. I hope you get some answers.

Hey there! It is good to we your name again! I wanted to ask what treatment you did for your MTHFR? Which mutation did you have?

@irishlove16 I am glad you asked this, I have had one loss and they did the RPL on me and revealed the MTHFR gene c677t mutation (I am soo worried this is not what really cause my loss) and my tissue revealed no abnormalities. My FET is on Tuesday and am so worried about losing another one. So thanks for asking this I needed to hear some of these stories!

  • I’m so sorry.  ((hugs))<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

While I’m not quite a success story, I have made it further than ever before, so I’ll share!

I had 3 early losses prior to this pregnancy.  We did RPL panel and everything came back normal.  This time I was treated for subclinical hypothyroidism (my TSH was 2.85), introduced baby aspirin, started seeing an Osteopath (who changed my life in so many positive ways), and eliminated ALL things that a food allergy test indicated sensitivity to (this I did through my naturopath).  I have no idea if any of this actually helped, but that is what was different.  Everything else was the same.

Oh ya, I also stopped all physical activity when I tested positive, and I had been marathon training during my other pregnancies.  I started showing signs of an autoimmune response to increased body temperature, so I sat with my feet up until 12weeks.

I am wishing you lots of luck!!!  Can’t wait to see you back here for good.

  • I'm so sorry you are going through this.  Each of my losses has been devastating, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.  Here's my story, hope it helps.  I had a m/c before DS was born, and they of course didn't test since it was my first loss.  Then DS, and all went well with his pregnancy.  Then I remarried in 12/2010 and DH and I started trying right away since I was 39.  We had a CP after just a couple of months of trying, but the m/c happened naturally at home and I didn't save anything for testing.  My third loss was a few months later, a MMC, and this time they did genetic testing.  It turned out the baby couldn't have survived because of Trisomy 4.  Our OB and RE and Genetic Counselor all told us that Trisomy 4 is a fluke trisomy and not one that recurs.  So we were told we were probably just extremely unlucky.  Then, my fifth pregnancy came in 2011 and was ectopic.  So, it appeared they were right about our luck just being crappy.  I ended up having to have surgery, and lost my right tube too.  After that, we just couldn't get pregnant.  We finally went through fertility treatments for 6 months but gave that up due to my AMA (I'm 42) and the dismal outlook from the jerky RE who we were using.  Lo and behold, this baby surprised us our first month of "not trying."  No explanation for why 6 months of Letrozole giving us multiple eggs, plus two IUI's couldn't get the job done.  Also, we did have genetic tests run on DH and I and they both came back clear.  I think, in my case, it really was just  bad luck mostly.  But I have a LO growing in there finally, so even bad luck can change.  Good luck to you!

    Me: 42. DH: 46.

    1st Pregnancy: MC, 11/19/00.

    2nd Pregnancy: DS born 04/10/06.

    3rd Pregnancy: CP, 03/11.

4th Pregnancy: MMC, D&C 11/30/11, Genetic testing revealed Trisomy 4.

5th Pregnancy: Ectopic, 2 doses of Methotrexate unsuccessful, surgery 4/10/12, right tube removed.

Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN.  After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.

August 16, 2013:  BFP our first month of "not trying!"  Still in shock.  Beta #1 (14dpo): 183.  Beta #2 (17dpo):  611.  Ultrasound 8/30/13: baby measured 6 weeks, 1 day, heart rate of 118 bpm!
Ultrasound 9/13/13:  8 weeks, heart rate of 176!

  • We are a success story after 4 losses (3 m/c and 1 c/p).

We did the RPL panel and karyotyping (everything came back normal) after our 2nd loss. RPL should be covered by insurance, it's only A LOT of bloodwork and isn't that expensive in comparison ($1000+), karyotyping may not be covered (but could be) and is more expensive ($3000ish) but may be important moving forward.

We decided/needed to do CCS testing (PGD) on our embryos in order to get one that was "normal" and that stuck. We are lucky enough to have 2 other "normals" on ice, for siblings!

We don't have an explanation for why we have so many un-normal embryos, I am older, but we started trying when I was 33 (4 years ago now) and experienced our 1st loss 6 months into trying.

We are still unexplained after 3 clinics and 4 IVFs and 4 years of trying.

    Hope this is helpful!

I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

    We are a success story after 4 losses (3 m/c and 1 c/p).
