Success after IF

Bleeding until eternity

I delivered my miracle and then 5 weeks later got my period it lasted 2 weeks and was sooo heavy I bled through towels. Then nothing for 40 days. Then I bled dark brown sludge for 4 days and it stopped then the day after started bleeding again and it has been going on now for 7 weeks. Finally this week my OB's nurse did blood work and my estrogen is 705!
I also have horrible cramps on and off.

I told her I want to go to an re one covered by insurance as I pay OOP for my fertility stuff.

Have any of you had this or know what could be causing it? They did an u/s and it was fine.

  • My friend had something similar (a lot of bleeding for an extended amount of time post delivery - not sure if it's the same symptoms as you) and it was because a part of the placenta was left behind and they missed it when they checked. It can wreak havoc on your body. She had to have a d&c to get it out. It also affected her milk supply so she said but not sure if that's true bc for her second she wasn't able to nurse either. GL!
Me: 34 - low ovarian reserve
    DH: 40 - no issues

    3 failed IUI's

    IVF #1 3/12 - 13 eggs, 9 fertilized,  2 transferred (1 grade 2 blast, 1 early blast), no frosties, 3/30/12 - 9dp5dt spotting, BFNs

    IVF #2. 7/12 - 18 days of stims, 3 mature eggs, 3 fertilized (ICSI), 3 transferred (9, 8, 7 cell) on day 3.  First beta - 8/21/12 = 105, beta #2 - 8/23/12 = 268, beta #3 - 8/30/12 = 2,352. 2nd u/s - 9/4/12. Baby Boy born 5/1/2013.

    IVF #3 Now (12/13). AMH is very low - 0.19. ER (12/5) 12 eggs, 10 mature, 7 fertilized using ICSI. 3 transferred (8,8,8 cell - all grade 2) on day 3. First beta - 12/21/13 = 126, beta #2 - 12/23/13 = 400, beta #3 - na (office was closed for new year's). First sonogram - TWINS aka OMG! -

Very same thing happened to my friend after she had her first. He was a micro preemie born at 24 1/2 weeks.

My SIL had down scary bleeding pp and needed a couple of transfusions, but it was due to an accessory placenta that wasn't discovered until well after delivery. She had a D&C to remove the remaining placenta remnants. Her HCG levels were also elevated. However, I don't have any personal experience.

That estrogen level is off the charts!! Surely that's telling of something! I hope you get some answers and relief ASAP!

  • I had massive bleeding after I had Quinn but I attributed that to having developed a blood clot and then being put on blood thinners.  It was so bad I would bleed through a super tampon AND a massive pad in like half an hour and then be in the bathroom cleaning up for 20 minutes and then start all over again.  My doctor said the answer was birth control pills, which, because of the blood clot I wouldn't be able to take.  Second to that, burning off the lining of my uterus.  Again, not an option if I wanted more children.  So, I waited it out and within another few weeks/months it got better.

Just this past summer I had a month or more where I was bleeding everyday.  Not as heavy as you're describing but a non-stop period and my doc did an endometrial biopsy and prescribed progesterone.  The biopsy came back normal and the progesterone seemed to do the trick to get my cycle back on track and stop the bleeding.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
