Crying at drop off

We switched DC's in October due to schedule changes. It was a rough 2 weeks dropping off with DD screaming and crying. Luckily after 2 weeks she was fine waving and blowing kisses. Now all of a sudden we are back to screaming and crying. I know she is well taken care of there or else I wouldn't leave her. She calms down probably minutes after I leave, I have even stood outside the door and watched her after I walk out. I guess I just do not understand why she is all of a sudden showing this type of behavior. Any advice?

Re: Crying at drop off

  • Good idea. However she has a door to her classroom that has a safety knob on it. But I could set up a different way of doing it though

  • Both my children do this. My 4 year old ha been in and out of doing this since he was 8 weeks old. I use to try to figure out why. Was it a change in his routine, drop off time, teachers? I came to realize it was HIS issue not one that was created by his environment. Emotional growth spurts in a way... I like to stay (out of sight) until he is calm and happy because it makes my day easier. That tends to happen pretty quickly which confirms it is not an actual issue. I don't make a big deal about it so as he has gotten older it has been easier to talk him through it but is still happens on occasion. It's a hard thing for Mama so I am sorry you are going through it. GL and I hope it passes quickly for you!
  • DS goes through phases of this too. It's back and forth. And usually if he cries in the morning he ALSO cries when I come to pick him up that afternoon because he doesn't want to leave. :-/ I can't win with that kid sometimes.

  • 4 1/2 yrs of this on & off for me too. I have just learned to accept it as long as I'm comfortable w/ the setting & teachers.
