Car seat help

I ordered the Bitax Marathon ..well the damn thug is huge! This is my issue..it fits in the center..GREAT! Not great when we have another baby (TTC) if the seat is positioned behind the passenger or driver said no one will be able to fit in my car except me with the frot seats ALLL the way forward but my husband is 6'4 and seat has to be all the way back.
I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty and my husband has a 2013 Chrysler 200..any car seat suggestions I'm hoping I can return this car seat

Re: Car seat help

  • I don't know about the Marathon but I have a Diono Radian r120, and there is an add-on angle adjuster for rear-facing that gains you about 4 more inches.  I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot and had the same issue.  I am not sure that would be enough for your husband though.

  • Post your question on the FB group Car Seats for the Littles.  Among other things, they're great at seat recommendations for particular cars.  But ditto the above poster - the Diono Radian has an angle adjuster that allows it to sit much more upright, giving you more room.

This--someone from the group will help you find a seat that fits.

  • I have a Crysler concorde and SO had a Dodge Dart. We both can fit at least 2 RF Diono Radians in our cars, possibly 3. The angle adjuster is fab and the Radian is a true ERF car seat. The Marathon is not.

I typically don't post here, so please excuse me jumping in ... but one thing that I learned recently is that for all convertible seats the SAFEST place for them to be is in the middle.  When you have 2 seats,1 convertible and 1 infant, the convertible is supposed to go in the middle and the infant should go on the side.  I apologize that I don't have any references to site, but perhaps you can get this information confirmed somewhere?

    Good luck!

(I have the Marathon in my Mazda 3 - tiny tiny car - and it does well in the middle)

The least protected child goes in the center. So that would be a FF child. The safest place is the one where you can properly use the seat 100% of the time. For many that is not the center.

Definitely a good and legitimate point.  Noted, thank you.

    This is not true.

The safest place is where you can get the best (and correct) install and access the child to restrain them properly. In many cars you can't get a proper install in the middle so NO the middle is NOT always the safest. Also, you always put the least protected child in the middle. If you have a 6 year old FF in a booster and a 1 year old RF in a convertible the 6 year old would go in the middle as they are the least protected. So again, the safest place for all convertibles is not the middle.
