Joining last decade...

So I finally went and got a real phone (iPhone 5s).  A really big change from my 7-year old LG Chocolate that I've been rocking.  I'm still kinda confused by the whole thing.

So... I know we've discussed this before, but I didn't really have a reason to care then...   what apps do you consider must-haves?   What settings/options do you strongly recommend setting some certain way, etc?

I just got my first smart phone too!  I had a basic phone that I got in 2007, lol.  

Apps: weather, local news, Facebook, pinterest, games for me and games for baby to entertain LO when on the go...

Pinterest because I can always have recipes with me.  

Cartwheel if you shop at Target.

Wunderlist is awesome for lists.  I love lists.

Baby Flash Cards.  Bryson knows so many new words because we look at them together every night.  It shows pictures of items, sounds out and spells the words and if it makes a noise, does that too.

The obvious, Facebook, etc.

As for settings, I don't ever let apps send me push notifications.  They drive me nuts.  

You can turn on guided access so you can lock it if you want to keep Elissa in one app.  It requires you to hit the home button three times then put in a passcode to get out.

Enjoy your new phone!  I just have the basic social media apps (fb, instagram, twitter, nextdoor, pinterest), the weather channel, pandora.  Some for shopping like cartwheel, zulily, groupon. Urbanspoon is good for finding local places to dine.  You can also add any website (like the bump) as an icon on your homescreen so it's easily accessible.

I really like the Star Guide app. It shows you what stars and constellations you're looking at based on your location. It's cool to see a bright star and then discover that it's actually a planet!

Under "Learning," hit Guided Access.

Turn it on, then set the passcode.  

When you give Em the phone, open up the app you want her in, triple click and guided access kicks in.  You can't leave the app and the home button doesn't work. You can't even change the volume.  The only thing you can do is force a restart holding both buttons, and I only know that because MH has no clue what his passcode is for GA.  Ha.  When she's done, triple click again, type in your passcode and hit End.  You're free to roam.

I'd like to know this too! I looked for it in the app store but couldn't find it....
