Hair dye

So I need you help with schooling me in the art of hair dye. I am currently a natural auburn-brown. I love my color but I want to go just a little more red. I was thinking of doing a non permanent hair dye. I am going to talk to my salon about it but I thought I would see if any of you ladies had done this?

Re: Hair dye

  • The pics are the same hair color in different lighting. If a subtle change is what you want and more shine to bring out the red, go with a gloss treatment rather than a dye job.

I am not a color expert, but I try to do my research to better communicate with my stylist.

  • I have never heard of a gloss treatment, I hate getting older. when I was younger my hair was much brighter and red. It seems to be fading away with time!

  • Lurker/barber here. I would ask for something that is the same level as your natural color, with more red than brown. Make sure to that the picture in with you. A gloss treatment will help seal the color in too.

To maintain the red at home, use professional shampoo/conditioner and wash every 2-3 days with cool water.

  • @allisonty11 I spoke with my stylist and she recommended a tinted gloss treatment. She also recommended John Frieda radiant red shampoo and conditioner. A lot of my problem is that my hair turns darker in the winter and then lightens up in the summer.

Is this something that you might recommend to your clients?
  • A tinted gloss treatment is actually a great idea, because it should just be a one-step process, so that means less time at the shop! I don't know a lot about the John Frieda products, but if they are sulfate free and deposit red with each use, then I say go for it!

I hope you love the results because that red is gorgeous!
