Constant congestion 10 wk old

My lo has been congested since about 2 weeks, at first I assumed she had a cold and thought it would eventually clear up but it never did. Every day at least three times a day I have to clear out her nose, the mucas is clear but sometimes especially in the morning it's a lot. It doesn't affect her bf unless it's in the morning and she needs to be cleared our before feeding and is starving but even then eventually is fine. The dr said it happens and to watch for allergies later on in life. I just can't accept that my poor lo is always stuffy and I feel so bad having to always suck her out. Is there something in my milk that is keeping it this way? I thought I have heard that somewhere but really not sure. I want to do anything to help her, she sleeps slightly elevated and the humidifier is never off just none of that helps. Anyone else experience this?

  • I unfortunately don't have an answer for you, but my daughter has had the same issue for over 2 months but the last month she's actually been sick too. It can supposedly be reflux causing it even if they don't spit up. I too feel like there should be an answer/ solution.

  • My daughter is the same way. She has been congested since birth. I need to use saline and clear her nose at least twice a day. Dr said she has very narrow nasal passages and eczema which makes the congestion worse. Basically we were told she needs to grow out of it and have steroid drops to use for a few days when it gets really bad.

  • It's possible it's being caused by an allergy to something you're eating. DS1 was congested everyday until we figured out he had a dairy intolerance.

You could try cutting out common allergens like milk, soy, nuts, and/or citrus to see if it helps. It can take up to 5 weeks of avoiding for dairy to fully leave baby's system, but we seen some improvement within a week.

  • Same as CLLDLL for us. His chest was rattly and nose runny. He had a slight rash that most just felt like a more ruddy skin type. Mspi was the culprit as confirmed by eventual bloody diapers. Good luck!
