Marisol?

Do you like the name Marisol? Would it be weird on a non-Spanish person? What middle name would you use with it? TIA!

Re: Marisol?

  • So pretty, but I agree that it might be odd if you are not at all Spanish. What about Marigold?

I would find it odd on someone without any Latino/Spanish/Hispanic heritage.
  • I agree with pp..weird for a person with no Spanish heritage.

  • I know a ton of women named Marisol, all between the ages of about 30-70, so for me it doesn't seem like much of a "baby name" I guess
And also I have never met someone who was not Hispanic with that name

FWIW I was friends with a Marisol growing up her name was Marisol Elisabet

  • Sooo pretty! But a little "off" to use if not Hispanic, a little.

  • There's so much cultural borrowing for naming purposes that it's become normal and acceptable nowadays. I don't see why your being non-hispanic should keep you from using the name you like. It's beautiful. Go for it.
  • I've only ever heard it on French women!

  • I think it would seem out of place on a person that isn't latin/spanish.

As just a name in general I really want to like it but it reminds me so much of Aerosol like a spray can. I think it's because there are very few words that have that same sound, so when I hear it I just see bathroom spray. :)

Marion, Maribel, Mariella, Meredith, etc. could be options.
  • I agree with everyone else-
  • I love it and don't think it needs to only be used on a Spanish baby. That's not very culturally sensitive, our names are from everywhere.
