DS does this. We're currently using CIO/Ferber. As long as I make sure to stay on schedule and not try to put him down when he's not tired, he goes down within 5 minutes nowadays, though he does cry for a minute and fuss for a few more before going done, but we've only been doing this for 6 nights so far.
I get him in his pajamas and nurse him. He then gets a story with his sisters then I sit in his room with the lights off and rock for a bit while snuggling and singing a song then I put him in his crib.
Before that, it was a matter of nursing him to sleep, rocking for 5+ minutes to be sure he was completely out and putting him in his crib and crossing my fingers that he didn't wake up from being moved. We opted for CIO when it started to take me the better part of 2 hours to put him down, even at 2 in the morning.
She plays after supper. At about 7 at the first sign of whining we make a bottle. I lay with her on the couch and she closes her eyes and drinks it (and snuggles in because she likes pillows) and she is out.
I nurse her to sleep. I always give her a fresh diaper first. Usually I let her "brush" her teeth as long as she is not too tired. I try to get her in pjs if it is cold. Once or twice if she was overtired I have given her a hot shower before diaper and pjs. Other times singing to her calms her enough to nurse to sleep. Sometimes if she is not too tired we read a story.
We put pjs on and every other night one of us reads while the other feeds. He usually lays down tired but awake, sometimes he passes right out with the bottle. We have a good sleeper for night time, naps are another story.
We do bath, change into pjs, book then bf and rock him to sleep or if he is squirmy my DH or I bounce him on an exercise ball. We still pretty much rock him or bounce him to sleep every night. He won't settle if we just put him in the crib awake.
We started a bed time routine at about 1 month old. He gets a breathing treatment to help with his restrictive airway disease while we talk and play. Then brush his teeth and a bath (bath every other night) Put on his PJS.. in the summer though this used to be his naked time, and with a boy that is very brave. Proud to say I was only peed on twice! Then we rock while he drinks a bottle and I read. Hes usually passed out by 8-830. Some random nights 10 because he just wants to play.

We have a night owl too! Depending I. The day DD will go to bed at 9:30-10pm. Her second nap for the day is usually 4:30/5:30-6:30/7pm
My child hates naps but usually is good with sleeping. We take a bath every night (seems like it's always necessary), have a bottle, then go into our crib awake but tired then he sleeps.
Diaper change, wipe face and hands with a wash cloth, jammies, tooth/gum wipe down, book (or two) and nurse to sleep. No routine for nap times when he's at home, I just nurse him to sleep when he's showing signs of sleepiness. We do a bath about 2-3 times a week. I'll probably start upping that soon.
My girl just got too cool for nursing to sleep. Now we are back to rocking and singing for about 20 minutes to a half hour. Not sure if we'll get back to nursing to sleep. I heard this was the last feeding they drop, so I am confused.

I think that it is meant that the nighttime feeding ie the one before bedtime is the last to go.

Yeah that is the thing- she no longer wants that last feeding before bed.

We sleep trained a while back, so bedtime is pretty easy for us now. Bath (every other night) diaper, PJ's, a little playtime, sign language video with his big brother, 3 oz of formula (we supplement), rock and cuddle for a minute or two, put him in the crib wide awake and say goodnight (sound machine on, blanket and lovey).
A typical night: pjs and new diaper, medicine (anti-seizure meds), bottle, and cuddles. He usually falls asleep on his own during cuddle time by 8 or 8:30. If he's not asleep by 9-ish and he is fine otherwise (not hungry or dirty), we just put him in his crib, turn off the light and shut the door. 9 times out of 10 he goes to sleep on his own soon after that. Occasionally he gets lonely and needs one of us to hold him for a little while longer, but it's very rare.
We also Ferberized and bedtime is a breeze. Bath at 8, lotion/diaper/PJs, bottle with the lights out and into the crib. Sometimes he passes right out, sometimes he fusses for a little bit. We started this routine around 6 months and wished we'd started sooner.
