April 2013 Moms

Baby's favorite food?

Sorry, I'm totally blowing up the board today. But what is your April baby's current favorite food? Rhys absolutely LOVES asparagus. He has eaten most fruits and veggies and loved them. He has also had shredded meat and likes it. He especially loves ham. I'm looking for other ideas of foods to give him so I'm curious what you all are feeding your babies.

So... your baby's favorite food (that is relatively nutritious)? Ready, set, go!

Re: Baby's favorite food?

  • My little guy just hit 8 months and he isn't eating regular solids yet. He has, however, just started to eat those little cheese puff thingies made by gerber and he loves them! He also scarfs up his bowl of oatmeal in about 3 minutes, no lie!

Do you like how his pee smells after the asparagus? I'm still laughing LOL.  Brayden's favorite food ever is pears, he devours them. We've tried everything from pretty much all veggies, turkey, chicken, scrambled eggs, & still pears are his favorite.

We just did asparagus last night and he loved it too!  I was suprised.  Its not the most healthy I suppose, but he gets super excited over honey graham crackers.

ETA: must remember to sniff diaper tonight :-&

  • I can finally give an answer now! Apple(sauce)! She also likes Puffs, but I'm not sure how nutritious those are...

  • Shredded cheese is pretty popular here, as well as pears and squash. Hummus on toast is usually met with enthusiasm, too.

Mm hummus... I love it, I am going to give it to Rhys for sure! He just got into puffs the other day so we give those as snacks sometimes, mainly just for fun and to work on the pincer grasp. @tondraluv yes that was hilarious... The funny thing is that one night after he ate asparagus he woke up crying MOTN, and when I was holding him, I noticed that he smelled like asparagus pee. Ewww!

  • A eats mostly everything that I eat. He is willing to try anything and LOVES food. Most of the time he's the first and last to eat off my plate. He's going through his attached at the hip mommy stage so he just picks certain things off my plate.

DD loves green beans! I'll sometimes puree them with corn or carrots. She pretty much eats anything though but is not really into purees any longer. Some of her other faves are shredded chicken, boiled eggs, yogurt and sweet potatoes.

  • Warner still sucks at eating (read: we suck at making baby meals) but today he enjoyed sucking the parmasean cheese off of spiral noodles. The noodles he seemed to care less about. He loves peanut butter, hummus off a carrot stick, yogurt, and gnawing on fruit slices. for you ladies giving asparagus, how are you preparing and serving it?

I usually broil it in the oven... just toss in a little olive oil, throw on a cookie sheet, and stick it under the broiler. Stir it around every few minutes and cook until it reaches the done-ness you like. Then I Take out a few pieces for Rhys and salt the rest for DH and me. I give it to Rhys whole. He can hold it really well in his hand and basically sucks and gums the daylights out of it. For whatever reason it seems to be the easiest veggie for him to eat.

A couple of times when I was just making a couple of spears for Rhys and not making extra for us, I have put it in a dish with some water in the microwave for a couple minutes.

  • Leif loves all food - seriously,
I just gave him a juiced lime and he sucked on it tonight. Crazy kid! His favorite has been pumpkin things, like some of my pumpkin muffin, scone, or waffle (fall food). Bananas are a hit.

  • LO eats everything! He just loves food in general. I had to bring puffs into daycare because he gets pissed when the other kids eat and he isn't...even when he's already been fed. If I had to pick favorites, I would say sweet potatoes and ham.

  • Ari has been going through a food strike since being sick.  She doesn't want anything except those cheese puffs things and the regular puffs.  But usually she loves anything with apple or apple sauce.  Pears and sweet potatoes are high on the list too.
  • One surprising thing DS really loves is lentils. I make a lentil stew that he really enjoys, and tonight we had a chicken, lentil and barley soup that he also loved. I have to spoon feed because lentils are really too small to pick up efficiently, but he clearly loves it, so I don't mind.

  • Connor will eat anything.

Though he had an absolute meltdown when I took away a slice of apple because he was biting off huge chunks. He also ate a lot of pasta when I had some and shared.

  • Pears, apples, yogurt, bananas, toast, sweet potato and salmon. She eats so much I have no idea how she doesn't weight more- only a little over 15 lbs. The only food she has snubbed so far is carrots.

Phee wants anything as long as it's on someone else's plate. My bigs (14,12,10) snack on frozen peas, so she begs food from them too. She has peas every day because of that. She went crazy when I offered her cabbage salad (coleslaw without all the goop) today.

  • My LO is a piggie too. She'll eat anything. If DS is having a snack, she has to have some of whatever he is having. She loves all fruits and veggies except for avocado. She likes chicken and ground beef. We are BBQing salmon tomorrow so I'll let her give that a try.

Rhys is allergic to salmon :-( he seemed to like it though.. Too bad! Especially since I make it a lot for DH and myself.

So sorry to hear that. After I gave my DD salmon I watched her like a hawk for hours to make sure she didn't have a reaction. It gets scary when you're giving them some of the foods people are more allergic to.
