Daily routines

What is your daily routine now that you've had a baby? Stay at home moms and working moms please post! Advice to help other moms?

I stay at home and it is so hard to find extra time to do anything. I forget to eat and have to rush bathroom time.

  • LO is usually up around 7 or 8am, she gets her morning bottle then goes back to sleep till about 10. During that time I take a shower, let dogs out, and any other chores that can't wait.

At 10ish she eats again then it's tummy time or ill read to her. She goes back down for a nap around 12.

Then we just repeat that all day as best I can. Eat, activity, sleep, me time. Usually takes about 3 hours for each cycle.

Then around 8 we give her a bath and her bedtime bottle. She'll go down for the night around 8:30, wake up at 10 to top her off with another oz or two, then shes out till the next morning.

It doesn't always go smoothly, the key is flexibility! but this is what works for us at the moment.

Our "schedule" - which is determined by the baby's sleep/wake cycles - is similar.

At 7ish, we wake up, I feed her, change her, then we play or just hang out for another half hour, then she goes back down for a nap and I go back to bed.

An hour or so later she wakes up again, feed, change, play again, then another nap for another hour or two - this is when I eat breakfast and do short-duration chores.

During her next awake period I will again feed, change, etc., do more stuff (she sits in her bouncy) then she has a longer nap and I either take a shower, do chores, or take my own nap.  During this awake period we may also run errands outside the house.  This is when I eat lunch.

Then around 6 or 7ish she shifts into night-time sleep patterns; she wakes every 2-3 hours, but only for food, and a diaper change every other feed or when she obviously needs one.  This is when I eat dinner, maybe shower, and sleep.

Now, this is not a schedule I planned.  It's the one in Dr. Weisbluth's book, and it's in the Lucie's List info too, and it's just something she fell into in the last couple of weeks (she's 2 months/9 weeks now).  Before that, it was a lot more haphazard, and I was a lot more tired.  Now I'm mostly just tired when I don't take that afternoon nap.

  • We don't have a super consistent schedule yet as DD is only 5wks 3days. She dictates her schedule right now, but I am slowly working on getting myself back on a regular schedule/routine. I am actually managing to clean and do things around the house and I am trying to get back onto a cooking routine as well. Though like ranaverde I try to aim for completing one maybe two tasks a day. If I get more done great, but I make sure to get at least that one thing done.

  • We do a late night feed around 3 or 4. Then she is up for the day at 8 or 9. She stays awake for an hour and we cuddle in bed and she goes back to sleep until 11. During this nap, I shower, feed the animals, and eat breakfast.
She's up at 11. We change her diaper, eat, and play. Then we do this until 10pm. She takes short cat naps through the day with one longer nap sometime in there. At 8, she gets a bath and then eats on and off. Around 10pm she finally passes out for the day.

Our schedule is arranged around her. It constantly changes slightly.

  • Feed once or twice somewhere btw 3 and 7
    Nap till 8
Change, clean up, play till 9ish
Swaddle, put in swing and nap for an hour or so and repeat

Naps go from 30 mins to two hours and are hard to predict. I try to use them to pump, shower, move laundry along and prep dinner. Sometimes that's ambitious though.

Evening routine starts around 8:30 or 9 depending on if it's a bath day. Includes bath, cuddles, nurse, diaper change, reading, swaddle and more nursing.

We're loosely trying to do EASY and it's definitely helping.

  • I feel like "routine" will never be in my vocabulary ever again. Haha.
