Small apartment... toys everywhere!

Hey ladies!  I am a single mother of DS who is almost 3 years old... We live in a smaller sized two bedroom apartment and his toys are all over!  I try my best to organize but I still feel like it is cluttered!  His Dad on the other hand has a house so they are very organized with toys over there.... any one else a single mother in a small apartment with tips on how to organize?!

Thanks!

  • I'm not a single mom in a small place, but try 2-1 furniture (like an ottoman or console table that doubles as storage)...also, underbed storage containers or closet organization solutions. Stick with toys that can be put away and don't require a bunch of floor space.

  • ditto the posts re: two in one storage and underbed containers. What works for us though is disposing the toys that DD is no longer interested with. We donate it most of the time.

  • Apartment-dweller here, too. What's worked for us is to limit the number of toys and to make sure everything has a 'home'. DD's main toys live in two bins in the entertainment center. Her blocks live in the drawer of the coffee table. Crayons and coloring books are on her kiddie table. In her room she has a bin of stuffed animals and her books live on her bookshelf. Tub toys live in a plastic basket under the bathroom sink. I've had to be proactive with grandparents about what will and will not fit in our home, but so far I feel this has worked.

She probably has 1/4 of the number of toys as most kids her age, but because we live in a small space I probably have less 'stuff' than the average non-apartment-dwelling adult as well.
