Random GTKY:How trusting are you

I live In Pasadena where the Rose Parade/Rose Bowl Game is held every year. We get thousands of OOT visitors that come in for the festivities. Last night, I let a man use my cell phone because his car broke down in front of my house (I live right on the Rowl Bowl so it's a high traffic area). My husband got mad at me because he said I still have a small town mentality (I'm from Bellefontaine,OH). So here's my questions:
 1) Where do you live?

 2) Is it a small town or big city? Imaginary bonus points for population

 3) Do you give panhandlers money?

 4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone?

 5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables?

 6) Would you let anyone use your debit card?

 7) Do you leave your door unlocked?

     1) Where do you live? Pasadena, Ca

     2) Is it a small town or big city? Imaginary bonus points for population It's a big suburb, 137,000 ppl

     3) Do you give panhandlers money? I buy them food instead.  My grandfather always used to do that because he said you never know when they were going to buy drugs or something like that

     4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone? Yes obviously, not if they look threatening or if it's just me & Brayden.  That way, I can run after them & kick their ass if they tried to take my phone.

     5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables? I would, I wouldn't be much help because I don't know how to use them myself

     6) Would you let anyone use your debit card? Only my husband

     7) Do you leave your door unlocked? No because like I said above, I live in a high traffic tourist area

: 1) Where do you live?  Savage, MN but I have spent the last 13 years in Minneapolis

    2) Is it a small town or big city? Savage is a small suburb, but mpls is a pretty big city.

    3) Do you give panhandlers money?  If they are doing something like playing an instrument I've been known to drop a few bucks to them... otherwise, no.  4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone? No, but I would dial it for them and stand there while they talked, as long as other people were with me

    5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables?  Yes, I'm in MN, this is a way of life here!

    6) Would you let anyone use your debit card?  Absolutely not

    7) Do you leave your door unlocked?  No, that's just dumb in my opinion, no matter where you are.

     2) Is it a small town or big city? The area is vast with lots of little cities in it. One day it will be a huge city. Our 4 lane highway has not cut it for a looonnnggg time now. We are extremely overpopulated.

     1) Where do you live?

Metro Atlanta- not a fan, I'm from MD

     2) Is it a small town or big city? Imaginary bonus points for population
Mid-size city, They film Walking Dead and Rectify here, so that's pretty cool.

     3) Do you give panhandlers money?
As a general rule, no. I have given $1 to a bum holding a sign that read, "Will accept your insults for $" or something along those lines. It cracked me up :P
I prefer to donate clothes/food/toiletries instead of money.

     4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone?
Probably not. It would depend on the person and situation. Who doesn't have their own cellphone nowadays?

     5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables?

The cables, yes, but I won't jump anyone from my car. I don't like people near my car.

     6) Would you let anyone use your debit card?
I have used my card for family before, but they can't actually use it without me. Just my Husband.

     7) Do you leave your door unlocked?

This is a pretty terrible question for people to be answering to the internet, lol. I sure hope nobody answers yes if they do.

I've been MIA but am trying to get back in to posting again. Sorry!

    1) Where do you live? Just outside of Huntsville, Alabama

    2) Is it a small town or big city? Imaginary bonus points for population. Huntsville is one of the biggest cities in Alabama but I wouldn't call it a "big" city. Our house is actually in the county, which means we live in BF-nowhere. I want to move closer to town pretty badly.

    3) Do you give panhandlers money? Nope, but I'm pretty jaded on things like this. However, on our honeymoon some guy was asking for money and, of course, we just kept walking. When he yelled out "I'm only 80 cents shy of a pint of whiskey!" my husband turned around and gave him a dollar for his honesty.

    4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone? Nope. I did that once and learned my lesson.

    5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables? Yes.

    6) Would you let anyone use your debit card? I give my card to people I know and trust well.

    7) Do you leave your door unlocked? My idiot husband won't carry a key with him so the door is unlocked during the day but not at night. I'm just waiting for the day this bites us in the ass.

  • 1) Where do you live?
    Kansas City

     2) Is it a small town or big city? Imaginary bonus points for population
Its not a small town but I don't know if I would really consider KC a 'big city' Its no where near NYC, Chicago, LA etc. okay I just googled and there are 2.34 million in the KC metro - so I guess big city

     3) Do you give panhandlers money?
By my work there are quite a few homeless people so I actually have little care kits that I keep in my car for them. I don't give out money

     4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone?
Depends on the person/situation/if I have LO/ if I am alone etc. - but most likely, yes.

     5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables?
If they could work them without my assistance

     6) Would you let anyone use your debit card?
family or close friends - yes. thats it though
I did have a lady who stopped me in the grocery store parking lot and told me she didnt have her purse with her and she needed gas money so I gave her $20. H still gives me a hard time to this day for doing that but I figure she will get her karma if she deceived me

     7) Do you leave your door unlocked?
Never. Since its been cold I have been leaving the car running while I go get LO from inside daycare and I am just hoping I don't come out to it gone someday :-/

This actually just happened at a daycare near me -- not MY daycare, but one within 15 minutes of my house, a friend of mine posted about it on FB -- she was dropping her kids off and another mom's car was stolen.  The police said that there were tracks in the snow where the thief was waiting for an opportunity.  She was a single mom with 2 kids.  I used to leave my car running while I'd run in, but I stopped that day.  Sucks that there are bad dudes out there screwing it up for everybody else. :-(

I will put in a scary story for you. About 4 years ago I was washing my car and a girl came up to me to borrow my phone I let her use it. Then she asked if I could give her a ride 2 streets away. Im a nice person why not? Bad idea at the corner there where 2 men, before I could realize what happen they were in the back of my car she had my cell phone and I had a knife on my throat. They told me to drive to my bank. Hell no! I knew better also I had cashed my check so I had $800 cash on me :(. They took that and after scaring the shit out of me and a punch to the face they left. With my wallet and phone plus my paycheck. NEVER EVER AGAIN! Don't talk to me,Don't look at me. It might seem very rude and someone might actually need help but I am too scared. I don't help strangers or talk to them anymore.

Ahhhh! That's terrible! I was in the situation where someone asked to use my phone then got in my car and demanded money but thank goodness it didn't go past that! I feel the need to hug you and lock my doors and hide from the world.
  • @bobosquared I have never been so scared. It took months for me to go out at night alone or to get over it. And I go and have my car washed since then no more washing my own car.
  •  1) Where do you live?
    Nowhere land, West Virginia.

     2) Is it a small town or big city? Imaginary bonus points for population
    Population 100 +- 10

     3) Do you give panhandlers money?
Sometimes if I have dollars, but I usually don't have loose money.

     4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone?
    Yeah

     5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables?
    Yeah

     6) Would you let anyone use your debit card?
    Family.

     7) Do you leave your door unlocked?
Yeah, even when I lived in Sacramento. Only because I had nothing to steal out of the car and the car was a 1970s piece of junk and I would give someone props if they could steal it.

Oh my gosh, how scary!!! It makes me so angry when people take advantage of good people. That's why this world is so effed up - no one wants to be nice for fear of this happening!

  • @cmcmillan0901 I completely agree. I panic when someone ask me if I have jumper cables or not? I hate when people come up to me in a parking lot,I lock my doors and I have to check if they are locked when I come up to a stop sign. Before that incident I never did that or was scared of a stranger. But it is the worst feeling in the world to think you are going to die. And now with a LO I am extra fearful.
  • Grew up small town but live in a big city in Canada now. I don't give pan handlers money but have given them food. Not a change to 4/5/6. My door is always locked.

I always feel horrible for doing nothing though 4) yes, if they needed help 5) yes, if I had some with me 6) no way! To me this is more foolish than leaving your door unlocked! 7) during the day, yes...there is always someone home.

     2) Is it a small town or big city? Imaginary bonus points for population its a pretty medium sized town. Lots of tourists for the summer that come to the beach and we also have a university that brings alot of college kids.

     3) Do you give panhandlers money? I have before but i started just getting them something to eat instead.

     4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone? I would have a couple of years ago but i lived in Oregon for about three years and right before i moved back to NC i was walking to my work which was like four blocks from my house and some guy was following me as i was talking on my phone. I got near my work and there was an ally way and he ran up behind me and started attacking me. I was still on the phone and my FI called 911. I started hitting him and yelling and he finally got off of me. the guy went to trial was clearly messed up. He told the judge it bothered him that i was on my phone. So yeah i dont even like talking on my phone in public much less let someone use it.

     5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables? only if someone else was with me, or like an old lady

     6) Would you let anyone use your debit card? no

     7) Do you leave your door unlocked? absolutely not

    1) Where do you live? Near Baltimore, Md. Grew up in Md right outside of DC.

    2)medium sized?

    3) Do you give panhandlers money? No, I hate beggers.

    4) Would you let a stranger use your cell phone? Only if i were with other people (my DH or another big man or woman)

    5) Would you let a stranger use your jumper cables? Not if i were alone or with the kids.

    6) Would you let anyone use your debit card?my sister and parents- thats all folks oh and DH of course.

    7) Do you leave your door unlocked? Hells no! As soon as I enter my house the door is locked. Same with the car. I always yell at DH for leaving our house and car doors unlocked- he has a small town mentality. I have grown up having pretty much every car my parents owned broken into and mine was almost stolen when I was in college in front of their house when I was visiting for Thanksgiving. Our house was also broken into growing up. It has definitely made me paranoid and untrusting.
