braxton hicks

I had them with DS1, a lot.  They didn't start until later on in the pregnancy.  My whole stomach would tighten and release.  He came at 36 weeks when my water broke.  I don't recall having them at all with DS2.   He came at 39w1d via RCS.

This time I think I'm already having them.  It feels a little different though.  My whole stomach doesn't tighten.  It just feels like I can feel my uterus tighten and release.  It happens a couple times a day.

I guess my question would be, if you experienced them, did your baby come early?  I know they are normal, but I'm nervous b/c of DS1 coming early.  I do know my OB plans on monitoring my cervix closely b/c of DS1.  I'll definitely talk to her about it.

I know that these are probably no indication of when this baby will come.  I'm just snowed in and bored and wondering what other experiences have been.   Thanks!!  :)

Re: braxton hicks

  • I had a ton with DS. Doctor said it was because it was my second baby. I had none with DD and she came at 40 wks.

All those with DS and I had to be induced at 41wks.

  • I had them all throughout-- starting at 20 weeks.

Dd was born at 38 + 5, but I did go into labor at 33 weeks. They were able to stop the contractions with meds, but I was hospitalized for about 48 hours and put on modified bed rest until 35 weeks (when my doc would not stop labor if it started.)

  • I had them a lot with DD, starting in the late 2nd/early 3rd tri I think. It was just my uterus contracting into a tight little ball, not my whole abdomen tightening. In the last few weeks they were uncomfortable and were timeable some evenings - 7-10 minutes apart for a few hours. DD didn't come until 41 weeks and it was an emerg. c/s and no labour - so I don't think they are an indication of when labour is going to start at all.

  • I had them a lot. They started at 20 weeks and from that point on I never went an hour without having one.

I went in to PTL at 32 weeks but managed to stop contractions a couple times and make it to 38 weeks 4 days.
