So my son is a little over 5 months old, and I am wondering if it may be time to start introducing solids. He has been drinking less milk during the day, and waking up in the middle of the night ravenous. He is not teething, by the way. Thoughts?
Between 4 and 6 months (better closer to 6, which yours is) is an acceptable time to feed solids. My little guy self reduced his bottle intake as well but because the BM/formula is the most complete form of nutrition for them at this age, I'd suggest mixing it with any solids you offer to increase the nutritional "bang for your buck" if you will. We're able to get a few extra ounces in our LO that way.
WHO recommends only starting solids at six months as babies guts are not mature enough earlier and can lead to problems in some babies if you start earlier.
At my 4 month appointment my pediatrician said that new guidelines suggest starting solids at 4 months and it is suggested that the baby may develop less allergies. She told me to introduce one food per week to be sure there were no allergies associated. I still haven't introduced her to solids. I feel like she needs to be sitting up unsupported. I just thought I would pass on the information. It sounds to me your baby is ready for solids!
