Breastfeeding

Need to stop?

I'm about 7 weeks preggo with my 3rd, which is great news, BUT I'm currently still nursing DD#2 in the morning and evening (sometimes more than that if I'm not working) and hadn't really planned to stop until she weaned herself.  She has a severe milk allergy, so while she drinks coconut milk during the day, I was hoping to keep the nursing for a while longer.  I will have my first prenatal appt. soon so I will ask my DR about this, but anyone know from experience - are they going to say that I have to stop nursing?  Is that what is healthiest for my little one #3?

Re: Need to stop?

  • I am in the same boat- 7 weeks pregnant and still nursing. I haven't had my first OBGYN appointment but I spoke with the RN and she said I can still breastfeed throughout my whole pregnancy if I want. She said I really have to up my water intake though. My supply has drastically decreased and it seems like my LO may be self-weaning. Double check with your doctor, but I think it is okay.

  • It's okay to nurse throughout your pregnancy, but some doctors may prefer you don't. The concern with nursing is that the release of oxytocin may cause contractions however doctors don't tell women with 6$ also releases oxytocin.

I nursed my first throughout my second pregnancy with no ill effects. Towards the end I would have some contractions while nursing but the stopped after we were done nursing. I ended up going to 41 weeks 3 days with my second, so no early labor.
  • This is great news - I'll still double check with my midwife at my first appointment but it sounds promising. Thanks ladies!
