Baby Names

My mom's names list

edited January 2014 in Baby Names
So my mom was visiting for a while and brought with her a list of baby names that she and my younger sister came up with for DS2. (As a fun thing only...I've made it clear she gets zero say :) ). Their list:
Ian Alexander (their top pick)
Patrick James
Owen Christopher
Evan
Simon
Kieran
Kellan
Keith
Grant
Liam
William
Graden

They didn't guess any of our top choices, but a few of their picks were similar to some of ours. The only real head scratcher on the list to me is Graden, which is not remotely my style. She was worried that perhaps Liam and Owen might be too trendy but it didn't even occur to her that Graden is the G entry in the rhymes-with-Aiden trend. Apparently she had a classmate some 40-odd years ago named Graden. The rest are pretty close to my style- even if they aren't on our list, they're all names I like.

  • Her list is great! Except Graden.

I like Rory Patrick best, then Kelly Patrick... Not that you asked for opinions on your tops! Then I like Simon and Kieran from your mom's list.

  • Simon is my favorite.
H only wants two kids but the thought of using our first choice boys name and possibly not ever using Simon is really a bummer.

Huh, I only know a Ewan. Is that Anglo'd??

ETA I ask because AMAZINGLY my DH said he liked it yesterday, and I was all swooning.

Euan and Ewan are both Anglicised...kind of like how Reese/Reece are just alternate Anglicised spellings. We like Euan a bit more since it doesn't have the 'Ew' in it and figured it would be less likely to get the Ew-in mispronunciation. According to this list I found Euan is actually the more common spelling in Scotland right now. https://www.britishbabynames.com/blog/top-names-in-scotland/
