Breastfeeding

XP: Breastfeeding/ letdown question (with my 11mo old)

This may seem like a silly question but, I notice that I don't always have a letdown everytime DS nurses which now is about every 3-4 hrs depending on what we're doing. Is this normal or am I just not *feeling* it??? He's on the boob for the same amount of time whether I feel a letdown or not, I don't know if that matters? What do you ladies think?

  • It's normal to not feel it. I felt it a lot more with DD1, but I had an oversupply then. I feel it less now with baby #2 and a more regulated supply. If milk is flowing you've let down, even if you don't feel it.

  • Yes, I do notice a change in breaths and him gulping milk down and can actually hear him drinking when I feel the letdown. That's why I'm curious if he's just comfort nursing every other nursing session the times I don't feel the letdown or hear him gulping milk. This would mean that he's really only nursing every 5-6 hrs.... He does eat all. the. time. Bottomless pit! Lol

  • I feel it half the time but even when I don't feel it I know she's getting milk. She's fallen off or moved to look at something while she's nursing and I'll feel milk trickle down out of her mouth so she's still getting it.
  • Thank you ladies for your help here!!!
