Multiple miscarriages

Hi all. I'm experiencing my 2nd miscarriage in 5 months. I'll be working with my obgyn to figure out the underlying cause. In the meantime, to anyone who has experienced multiple miscarriages have you figured out why or possible causes?

first year trying- had my d&c today (3rd in 9 months ) they are sending the tissue out for testing they said the most common cause of multiple mc is chromosomal / genetic adnormalities ( either parent can be a carrier) they also said there are a few less common reasons. the biggest thing is that we are fertile since we reached a heartbeat and had three positive test so most likely there are treatments good luck to you !

I  am in the middle of my 4th (3rd this year). all have been early losses. I had the recurrent loss panel done and nothing turned up except my MTHFR is slightly "off". But, folic acid didn't help - thus loss #4. I talked to a new doctor today who is going to help me figure it out though. I have two living children so it doesn't make sense to me. I am only 36, so I am determined to have a 3rd!

I am only on my first miscarriage, but I have a known risk factor to multiple miscarriages. I had a clot in my left thigh and a clot in my right lung in Oct 2012. After months of treatment, my doctor had me tested for genetic clotting issues. They found that I am heterozygous for factor 5 liden. Essentially I am a carrier for a clotting problem. The clot in combination with my carrier status puts me at risk. Someone else I knew in graduate school was homozygous for a genetic clotting factor. However, she did not find out until after losing multiple pregnancies and seeing a specialist. I have no clue if that could be the reason for you. Just thought I would share.

I just had my 2nd miscarriage this past week.  The first one, however, was when I was 21 (11 years ago) and living a risky life so I always considered that the reason.  However, I, too, have Factor 5 Leiden, heterozygous so I don't know if that is it.  I haven't seen my doctor yet because of this new insurance law, I was dropped by my old provider and my new one is dragging their feet in giving me my insurance info - sucky time to be in between insurance.  Thinking I need to go more high risk doctor, though the high risk doctor I went to before said I shouldn't have any problem and shouldn't have to be on any meds.  I really don't want to be on any blood thinners as there is such a risk for defect but we will see what they want to do.  AEZimmerman - I'd like to hear what they do for you, if you don't mind, so I can compare notes.

No answer yet but they ran antibody bloodwork and I sent my miscarriage in for genetic testing. But I was told only 5% fit in the antibody group and of those who get genetic testing about 30% will come out with still no answer. Sadly my RE really thinks its just my bad luck of age meaning I have thay fewer good eggs left. sigh.

I had IF to start with then had a missed m/c the OB said it was bad luck and it wouldn't happen again.  We got benched two years for DH health then we were lucky though it was our break pregnant on the first try only to have another missed m/c.  I have an appointment later this month to start testing with a new OB to figure out if there is an issue or just horrible luck.  Two missed m/c back to back is nothing to worry about.  I have really odd cycles though 22 days then 28 then 21 then 28.  Both losses came from what would have been short months in the pattern.  I also know that it was at least CD 13 before I conceived.  My OB said she thinks I might have a blood clot and need aspirin but did no testing thus the new OB.

I m/c at 12 weeks, after hearing the heartbeat at 10 wks (baby was not planned). We did not ttc for 6 months, then did ttc, and I m/c at 8 wks and 5 wks. We've found I have low progesterone, so the uterine lining wasn't building properly. Luckily, it seems to be an easy fix (fingers crossed!).

I am sorry for your loss, and hope that you quickly find a cause and solution.

Standard protocol is to be on lovenox for the duration of the pregnancy (switching to heparin when full term).  Yes you should go to a high risk doctor and should also be seeing a hematologist.  I had two prior miscarriages/losses and I switched to a new OB who immediately sent me to the hematologist for blood work as that would be an easy fix.  And lo and behold I was diagnosed with FVL and immediately put on Lovenox.  It was a no brainer for me, not sure what risk for defect you are referring to but the benefits FAR outweigh any risks.  I now have a beautiful 2 year old.

    Good luck, OP!
