Cloth Diapering

Flats! Thanks ladies!

So we decided we would be cloth diapering our baby due in May mostly for money-saving purposes. And soon after making that decision I noticed my local super-cheap liquidation-type store (it's where I buy all my yarn.) was selling packages of flat diapers 10 for $15. I was a bit hesitant when I first saw them, thinking that would be WAY to difficult, but I always check their baby section to see if they have any prefolds (they never do). I'm still building my stash and adding to my CD registry thanks to advice and experience you lovely ladies are always providing.

So earlier this week there was a discussion about flat diapers that really peaked my interest, as so many of you swore they were as easy as prefolds. So I was at my cheapy store for fabric yesterday and I picked up a package of flats, since they were so cheap. They are flannel 27" squares, which seems pretty standard. I'm sure they will shrink a bit once prepped. I was playing around with them today when I was supposed to be cleaning up what will be the nursery, I watched a few videos on different folds and I was practicing on some stuffed toys (so cheesy). I'M IN LOVE.

Thank you ladies for the advice and encouragement on all things CD. I thought I was excited when my first shipment of OS pockets arrived, no, today, practicing folding the flats and putting a cover over them, I have never been so happy and confident with our decision to cloth diaper! We were planning to use a CD service for the first couple of months until we got the hang of everything, but now knowing I could use flats and prefolds for our NB way cheaper than a service, I think I might just start washing our own from the start!

Re: Flats! Thanks ladies!

  • If you can find a muslin gauze fabric, you can made some flats too. Usin one flannel with one muslin is a very good combination for the nigth time. I'm been using them with my LO and so far they are very good, I also put them on the gdiapers and they last up to 4 hr.
