36 weeks and contractions?

I am 36 weeks as of today, and had my doctor's appointment this morning. Doctor says I have been having some contractions over the weekend, but my cervix is closed and I haven't lost my mucus plug yet. Is this normal? Sorry if this sounds dumb. I am a FTM, and probably overthink everything. Haha.
