Movement?

Just wondering if there are others who haven't felt clear movements from the baby?! I am 19 weeks so I know I'm a little behind the average for M14 as I'm due at the end of the month and a FTM. I keep telling myself that not everyone has felt their baby move around, but somehow it just still freaks me out. Just want everything to be ok with our LO. Thoughts? Thanks girls!!

Re: Movement?

  • You're not alone, don't worry. :) I'm 19 weeks too, and this is my third. The only time I feel any movement is if I'm bending over and squishing the poor baby. I'm always late feeling movement with all babes. My first was the earliest out of all 3 at 18 weeks.

It depends on the position of the placenta really, it can cause quite a 'barrier' to the baby. But I can tell you, chances are, when you do start to feel it, it will be like baby never stops :)

  • I've barely felt anything - a flutter here and there but that's it and I am 20 weeks tomorrow.  I'm normally on the June board and we are getting a lot of movement posts and I feel so far behind that it's making me nervous.  It's normal though especially for us FTM's - still hard to not think something is wrong though!

This. I have felt random things I THINK could be baby, nothing I can for sure feel. When I lay flat I can see him on one side or the other so I know he's moving , and I can hear him move on Doppler.

  • I'm 21 weeks and still don't feel much.  I THINK I've felt her a handful of times but I'm not sure.  And I don't have anterior placenta or anything - just a lazy kid (we've never seen her moving or flipping around on any of our ultrasounds either).
  • I'm at 20 weeks and only feel a flutter here and there, usually first thing in the morning before I get out of bed.

  • This is my third and I just started feeling actual movement last week. I felt flutters here and there starting at 14 weeks - but I don't think I would have known what they were if I was a FTM.

  • I'm a ftm and am almost 20 weeks and have been having a lot of flutters! a lot of people say it's hard to tell whether it's gas or not but it's def not gas it's a totally different feeling ... loving it though
  • With my first I didn't feel her until 23 weeks and I didn't have any placenta issues nor was I overweight and I saw baby move plenty on the ultrasounds... Just couldn't positively say I felt her... With this one (third baby ) I've felt her for weeks now and so has hubby.. I wouldn't worry I'm sure everything is fine

  • You're not alone.  I'm 20w2d and a STM but I have an anterior placenta so that is delaying things a bit for me.  It was right around 19/20 weeks when I first started feeling DD and I felt her from the outside around 22 weeks.  I've still only felt what I think are a handful of twitches/bubbles.

  • FTM with anterior placenta and a little (OK a lot) of extra belly flab  :-(  21+3 and just started feeling definitive flutters within the last 3-5 days.  Usually only feel them when I am laying down, or sitting forward and squishing baby.  Plus because of the anterior placenta, I only feel the flutters very low and on the left side.  The rest of my ute is pretty much the placenta (aka punching bag for baby girl).  Im PGAL as well so it can be scary but so far everyone Ive spoken to and everything I've read said that movement may take up to 23 weeks or even more, particularly if you have an anterior placenta...
  • Thanks girls! You made me feel so much better. We have our a/s next Monday so it will be a relief to see our baby again and see movement. Good luck to all you, and hope we all start feeling more movement!!
  • I'm 20 weeks and have felt very little movement.  My placenta is also in the front.  My DH and I went for the anatomy scan today and the baby was moving around like crazy.  My Doc said that by my next appt, 4 weeks from now, I should be feeling movement!

  • The first time I felt the baby, and knew definitively that it was him, was at my anatomy scan. It was so strange because I could see him moving on the screen, pulling his legs up to get ready to kick, and then boom- I felt it. I think I had felt it before, just never knew that was what I was feeling until I felt it in conjunction with seeing it! I feel it the most when I'm laying flat on my back, and when I'm driving for some reason. This wasn't until right at about 20 weeks so no worries!
  • I am also 19 weeks due May 24th and I haven't felt anything. If I do feel anything I tend to dimiss it as gas just so I don't get my hopes up lol

  • I don't think it's abnormal, but you may have felt your baby move and not realized it. It's a very unique feeling at first...sometimes feels like a pressure, sometimes like gas, sometimes like a muscle spasm. It's really hard to recognize...even the second time around I have been second-guessing it.

  • I'm 20w5d with twins. While I've unmistakeable felt baby boy move many times, I haven't really felt anything that I know for certain to be baby girl. Camden is positioned higher up on my left hand side and I feel his kicks at/or above belly button level almost daily. Cali however is positioned very low down in my uterus and has an anterior placenta. While I'm so thankful to have felt movement from him, I'm in a similar boat with some of you ladies in the sense that it worries me to not really be able to feel her. (**previous pregnancy loss at 19wks mentioned**)

This exactly. I have an anterior placenta too and the first time I felt my son was at exactly 20 weeks the anatomy scan when I saw him kick me. I hadn't even felt flutters before that. Since then I have really been able to connect that same feeling with baby movements instead of gas. It was like a light switch flipped, because now I feel him ALL THE TIME. Multiple times during the day and a ton in the early morning and late at night. He's currently partying it up in there as I type.

The movement feelings will come soon, I promise!!

  • I've only felt a couple little movements that I'm not even 100% are her. But I found out yesterday I have an anterior placenta so that's why.
  • I'm right there with ya! Due the 26th ... I have felt lots of movement since about 16 weeks though. Comes and goes too. I was told at my a/s that we had a very wiggly baby

    It's a BOY
