best pad for top of staples

Looking for the best pad to sit on top of staples to keep the after baby "fat flap" off them so moisture doesn't begin a yeast infection. I bought some and they are way to huge and not long enough. I wish I would have grabbed more from the hospital dang it. A friend said try a wash cloth, but I'm too paranoid of the little raised parts catching a staple.

  • I was also going to suggest a washcloth? Maybe a baby washcloth- they tend to be less nubby? I didn't really have an issue with this but I did have an OnQ pump (basically delivers novacaine directly to the incision the whole time in the hospital) with my first and it kept leaking through my incision and soaking my pants. The washcloth trick worked but I didn't have any external stiches/staples- only glue. I would avoid Always pads since they have Dry Weave but maybe Stayfree would work? It is more cottony.

  • I can't remember the brand...probably Maxi or Always, but the super or xtra super overnights worked pretty good.  I just didn't take the plastic off the sticky pieces.  I wished I had snagged more from the hospital too.

@jssica2- I had it with my first but not my second. Trying to decide if I want to request it this time. I do feel like it helped with pain mgmt for sure... I didn't feel anything while I was in the hospital which was great. But it was leaky and annoying to carry around. I was actually the "guinea pig" for my doc- she had never used it for a c/s before me (she had used it for hysterectomy and other surgeries). By the time #2 came around, she said she thought that the morphine in the spinal was sufficient pain management and I agree... it just made me itch like crazy. So I don't know... decisions decisions.

  • I used gauze on my incision. I didn't have staples, but I had drainage. It kept it dry.
