Babies: 6 - 9 Months

4:30am wake up

He goes to sleep at 6:30pm and wakes up at 11 for a 6oz bottle and then around 2 for another then up at 4:30 and ready to rock n roll. Any suggestions on getting him to sleep later? We have tried pushing his bedtime back but that doesn't make a difference and only makes him an angry baby.. I know he is still tired because usually after an hour of play he is ready to sleep again.

  • Dd goes down around 6ish or earlier then up around 2 or 3 & then up around 5. I feel your pain. I can't keep dd up any later or else its miserable for everyone.

  • It's a phase. DS was doing this for a bit too. Has he learned anything new lately?

I would say that bedtime is a little early.  I would try and slowly push it later if possible, even if its five minutes a day.  Can he take a nap closer to bedtime so he has more energy to stay up later?

Another thought, is he eating enough during the day?  If he isn't that may be the reason he's waking up at night.  Trying to make up for calories not gotten during the day.

Last thought, after doing lots of reading, babies who don't get enough sleep during the day don't sleep as well during the night.  Is he getting enough day time sleep?  Books say around this age it's 2 (two) 1.5--2 hr naps and maybe a catnap.

My hubby and I made a rule, if he's not sick, napped fine the night before and had plenty to eat and he wakes up in the night before 7a we wont go get him.  He might cry for 5-10mins and then will fall back asleep because we know he has no business being up at that time. (Although sometimes we might check for a poopy diaper)

    Good Luck!
