To make it through pregnancy without a hemroid.. Well I've got one now! My first.. So what do I do?.. Lol. I know there's creams (going out first thing in the morning to get some!) but do I call my doctor?
At least now that you're not pregnant, unless you're breastfeeding, you can use more of the over the counter remedies! I had them while pregnant and they briefly got worse after delivery and they seem to be going away on their own now. I had one that was super painful to the point where I could barely sit for a couple of weeks, so I definitely know where you're coming from. I kept the area crazy clean. Freezing witch hazel on cotton balls and applying them to the area helped, when I could stand it. I was prescribed a suppository steroid cream that didn't seem to do a whole lot. I was able to use dibucaine ointment to help numb the area, which really did help. Other than that, they eventually started to bleed, which I honestly think helped to relieve the pressure and made it feel better. The sitz bath never worked for me. I do know that if they become thrombosed, they can do surgery to help correct the issue. It might be worth a trip to the doctor if you're in a lot of pain.
I got hemmorrhoids once before getting pregnant. Surprisingly, I avoided them while pregnant and postpartum. When I did have them, I went straight to my GI doc. The steroid suppository worked wonders for me. Creams didn't even phase the nasty thing.
I suggest stool softners. I use one my re told me to use during the pregnancy where it is just powder in my water. To calm a hemmroid you first need to have soft stools so you don't irritate it more.
