Babies: 6 - 9 Months

7-month old weight

How much does/ did your LO weigh at 7 months?

my daughter was 6lbs 12oz at birth and weighs 14 lbs 14oz at 7 months. she started some solids but we do BLW so i don't think she's getting a lot just yet. she's exclusively breastfed. has enough wet and dirty diapers (as far as i can tell) and is meeting developmental milestones just fine. but my parents are nagging me that she's too skinny. they live in another country and haven't seen her since she was 1-month old and all they have to go by are my weight reports and pictures (which they've shown to people over there, including some that happen to be pediatricians) and the general consensus is that she's way too skinny for her age. it's driving me crazy (and makes me mad at the same time) and i know i shouldn't really let it bother me, but i can't help it. so, how skinny or chunky are/were your 7-month babies?

Re: 7-month old weight

  • I'm trying to remember exactly how big she was. (I have the stats on my computer at home.) At 9 months she's around 17 lbs and 29" - up to 25% for weight and 95% for height. She'd been about 10-16% for weight forever. At 8 months she really started eating more (we do BLW also) and seemed to gain in percentiles then.

  • My LO will be 7 months on the 5th and just this am I weighed her on our scale at home (so not the most accurate) and was 15lbs. She is also EBF and doing some purees and mashed food.

  • Is she staying in her percentile range? I'd be worry if she dropped drastically but if not, don't worry. My DS has always been between 25-50% for height and weight.
  • Are you and your husband small?
My 18mo was right around that size at 7 months but I'm only 5'2" and his father is only 5'7" so we don't expect him to be very big. At 18mo he is still only 21lbs. My 7mo is currently 16lbs but eats like a horse(ff fed and blw). Still on the small side for his age but once again not worried because of our sizes.

  • 15.2 and 27" - he's in the bottom 10% for weight but healthy. Some babies are just little!!
  • Every baby is different, just like every adult is different.  I have the opposite problem with people telling me DS2 is too big (26lbs, 33") for 7 months. His twin is 20lbs and 29", which is also big but people keep saying he is too small. Their dr told me to ignore the critics as long as they thriving, active, and generally happy/healthy.

  • R turned 7 months yesterday and he's around 20lbs and 29in.
  • 6lbs 15oz at birth and 14lbs 2oz at 6 months, so it's not going to go up dramatically in the next two weeks (LO is now 6.5 months). So we both have small babies!

  • 6.5 months old, almost 20 pds and 29'' long

  • My DD was 5lbs 15oz. At 6 months was 12lbs 9oz. She had always been at 3-7%.
At 10 months she is exactly 14lbs. She did start having growth issues at 7 months but up until then she was fine and still smaller than yours. You just have a peanut. But trust me I understand the annoying comments
  • Yes true until your child s healthy  and happy don't worry about what people are saying.Just notice the activity of your child. And  always think that your child is healthy.
  • Like someone else said, maintaining their own curve is way more important than the actual numbers.  In order for there to be a 0-100% range, someone has to be at the bottom and someone has to be at the top :)  If she's always been petite (and especially if she's short), it makes sense that she's remaining tiny :)

  • So I just got home and looked at my records. She was 15 lbs 4oz at 7 months and approx 28".

  • My LO is about 18.5 pounds. All babies grow at different rates. If your pedi isn't worried, then it shouldn't be an issue. Tell your family to back off!
  • Both my boys were little. DS2 is even smaller. I don't know what he weighed at 7 months, but at 9 he barely cracked 16 lbs. He is BF (gets bottles at daycare) and is a big fan of solids. He eats quite a bit, but that's just how he is. It was a lot easier to not worry about it this time around since I saw with DS1 that that is just how my kids are! At 3.5, DS1 often eats more than I do and is barely the 20th percentile.
  • I think some babies are just small. My daughter is 8 mo and only 14 lb 10 oz. Doc says she's just fine just a very little girl. We also do BLW and the amount of food isn't that important at this age. It's more for practice. Breast feeding is going to give her more calories than food could. She won't really start needing the food till around 9 months. Anyway, I hope this helps. I love having such a tiny baby. Her 4 month old cousin weighs the same as she does! But it's like having a perfect little baby doll. :)

  • DS was around 16.5lbs at 7 months, he's always been in the 20% for weight. He is in the 90% for height so that explains some of it, Pedi said absolutely no concerns if he's growth is progressing at the same rate month to month and it is, he's just long and lean. Every babies different just like adults!

  • DD is 33 weeks (7mo19d) and weighs 17lbs 15oz. She's in the 50th percentile.

Weight varies so much that unless your pedi is concerned then I would try and ignore others comments (hard I know).

  • My LO is going to be 6 months this month and he's about 14 lbs. He's always been in the 10th %ile or lower for weight and about 50th for height, but my pediatrician is not concerned. He looks healthy to me. I wouldn't be too concerned if that's where she's always been.

  • Our lo is 7 months and 16.3lbs. She was born at 6lns 15oz and our dr is very pleased with her weight. She went from the 14th to the 30th. Don't worry all babies grow differently. Maybe check your baby book from when you were that age because you could be similar! my dd and i are the exact same weight when i was her age.
  • LO was a 4 pound 4 ounce preemie at birth. She is now 17 pounds and 29 inches long. She eats cereal, formula and puréed (fruits, veggies).
