C-sections

Hello and anyone else have or having a c section due to placenta previa?

Hi everyone. I've never posted on this forum before, but I'm a regular on March 14. I was diagnosed with a complete previa a couple of weeks ago when I had some bleeding. I stayed a night in L&D and then was sent home on modified bedrest. I saw my doc on Monday and I hadn't had anymore bleeding. He took me off of bedrest and told me to resume my normal activity (minus working) until he sees me again on the 2nd. He said if I have ANY more bleeding, or contracting I was to go straight back to L&D.
Well, I got up to pee at 3 am and sure enough, bright red blood. Sooooo, here I am, at L&D. Just waiting to see the doc. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a previa and when they did a c section. I'll admit, I'm terrified of a c section because I've had 3 natural births. But I'm also aware that this will be the safest way for her to enter the world.

  • Hi zombie love 126. I spend most of my time on the March 14' board but, I don't post much. Welcome to the c-section board. Sorry to heard you are in the hospital. I had a c-section last February and I am having one again this March. If you can do natural birth, you can totally handle a c-section. I was (still am) totally not ok with having my stomach opened up while being AWAKE.....however, all you need to do is believe in your self and trust those around you to take good care of you. I focused on the baby (also knowing it was the safest thing for him) and everything worked out just fine. It's all about staying positive and making lemonade with lemons!!!

  • Aww, thank you. I'm honestly super terrified of the epidural, silly, I know. And I'm bummed that I won't be able to hold her right after:(. But you're right, it's what is best, now I'm just hopin we can make it to 34 weeks! Thanks for responding:)
  • I can't tell you anything about an epidural (they gave me a spinal) but, I was also terrified. To be honest, thinking about it was the worst part. It is SO easy to get yourself worked up about it. And, of course, I was super good at doing that. The procedure itself really isn't that painful (just a needle stick) and it goes so quickly. Not being able to hold LO right after is a bit of a bummer but, in my case, my little one was delivered early so they whisked him off to make sure he was breathing ok. I found it comforting the my husband was with the baby during this time and he and the nurses were giving me updates. I remember being rather anxious for the ob to finish stitching me up so I could get my hands on my LO. After I was stitched up, I was in the recovery room for a while. They wouldn't let me go until I could feel the lower half of my body again and it felt like it took forever to regain feeling in my legs. In reality, it wasn't a very long time, but, it felt like it because I was dying to see my little one. Once he was in my arms, I sort of forgot the whole thing.....and ....here I am doing it again so.....it must not have been that bad....right. :) I totally understand how much it bums people out that they can't had their ideal birth experience but, my advise is always it to recognize it, grieve it (for a very short time) and then try to in-brace the fact that you did the best thing for your baby. When I think about it in those terms, I am a happy mommy.

  • I just had a c/s for complete previa diagnosed at 18 weeks. I was a freak of nature and never bled despite all the odds. Mine was performed at 36w5d. Lo is doing great, we left in 48 hours.

I had a rough c/s only in that I had a bad bleed at the placental insertion site. I lost 1.4L of blood. :( I had no idea anything was wrong the whole time. I have to take iron three times a day and feel a little weaker, but they still let me leave early.

I don't think this is tyPical and don't want to scare you. They check your hemoglobin and hematocrit a couple times in the third tri.

I'm happy I still have a uterus and we are both OK.

Guess it was Payback for my ob saying I had ab magical placenta bc it never bled

  • So you didn't have the bleed until they did the c section? I have been bleeding on and off and to L&D for it 3 times. I saw my doc today and he said one more bleed and I'm in the hospital until she comes. He said to plan on Feb 17th or 18th for my c section that will put me at 36 weeks. I hope I make it that long, I'm on strict bedrest now with only bathroom privileges. Thank you for your response, it's been hard to find anyone who has had a complete previa. I'm happy you and your baby are healthy and doing well! Congrats:)
  • I'm mobile too, lol. I'm 30 weeks today. I don't know why I'm so scared of the epidural, it's not so much the needle but the feeling numb part that freaks me out. Which in my rational mind I know is necessary. Lol
  • Nope, no bleeds. Like I said, it was a magical placenta until the section. They gave me the same guidelines on bleeding. My goal was always 34 weeks because if I bled I wouldn't have to do steroids.

You are so excited and focused on DH You don't really notice whats going on until the baby leaves the room. It was weird, but tolerable, and this its coming from a claustrophobic. I even asked if I was given something to chill out and they said the spinal just kind of does that.

  • i had my first baby natural and was terrified when my specialist told me i would have a section because of my previa this time. i worked it up so much in my head i almost had an anxiety attack when the moment finally arrived. i went into early labor at 35 weeks and my ob did not feel comfortable stopping it and since i had a section planned at 37 weeks we went ahead and did it. honestly it was not that bad. i know its hard but try not to stress. its an easy surgery and its all what you make it. good luck mama
  • Thank you ladies! I'm starting to feel more at ease with it, I just know that is the route she has to come. I feel like I've had a hard time finding other moms with a previa, so I really appreciate your feedback.:)
  • Iv just had a c section with my daughter due to this. It's all good my daughter is healthy I'm on the mend! Life is good x
