Pregnant after IF

c/section advice

So, I thought it may be a little helpful to give info on my csection experience since I see a lot of us are going in for it, and many of us for the first time.

Let me just say that I am the BIGGEST cry baby, and my tolerance for any sort of pain is very very little.

L&D Room:
So before the OR, you're in L&D room. Here you are likely to: be hooked to an IV, and NST. You'll be speaking with the anesthesiologist, and signing consent forms. You'll speak with the doc (either your OB or resident doc) that will explain what's gonna go down, and sign off that they can/can't do a blood transfusion if needed. Nurse will give your partner his nice little scrubs. Then they'll take you into OR for meds while your partner waits outside.

OR:
When your in the OR, expect to see a lot of people! I had a room of 12 people, If ur having multiples, there will be more. try not to let this ooverwhelm you, they all have a purpose to be there. The anesthesia is first. And for me I paniced for no reason. Please, I beg you all, don't move. Its very scary, but don't move. Its not that bad. You'll feel a burn and a sting for a second. I also felt the needle go down my back but it wasnt bad, I promise. Once that doc puts the meds in you, you will get numb asap. It felt weird for me. And I didnt llike the feeling because I wasn't in control of my body or motion. After the meds are in. They'll lay you on hour back and start to set up shop. They put a cathider in for your bladder that will stay for 24 hrs. I liked it, lol. I didnt even feel myself pee :) ****Warning: if you have experienced anxiety before, prepare yourself. I was having a minor anxiety attack. I couldn't breathe. I kept watching my oxygen level on the monitor and it was perfect. Once they set up DH & OB strolled in and I felt relief right away.

The Cut:
Youre likely to not even feel it. I didn't know he cut me until I asked. You do feel tugging and pulling and pressure, the sensations but you won't feel any pain :) it took 8 minutes for them to get Nia out, so anywhere between then and fifteen minutes.

The baby is here:
They'll pull baby out, show him/her or both to you and right away the pedi team will do their thing. Prepare yourself momma, you are likely to not see them for a while, some maybe the next day. I suggest sending DH wwith them, recording everything. So while you recovering and in your room, you can watch, makes it a little better.

Recovery room:
So once you're done, they'll send you to rrecovery. Anywhere from 1-2 hours, depending on how fast you get the feelins back in ur body. Take this time to sleep, as much as you may be worried about your LO, rest! You'll need it.

Your room!
After recovery you get sent over to your room and you get in bed. The sucky part is your ass is glued to the bed for a while, and if baby is in NICU, you can't See em. But i promise you, get rest or you'll go thru it later. I didn't rest at all. I ended up falling asleep on the phone, and I passed out! Get rest whenever you can.

Meds!:
Stay on top of them. If your doing perks, they'll probably make u drowsy. For the time that your stuck in bed, try different mixes. I noticed two perks made me really drowsy and when I would go to the NICU, I would get super sleepy mid.visit. so I tried one perk with one motrin and that does the trick for me. Everyone is diff, just see what works for you. Do not let the pain get bad before u ask for meds, you'll hate yourself for that. As soon as youre able to be mobile, go for it. This totally helps. I am now day three, I feel freaking great. I can get up and pee alone, I can walk, I showered alone. Push yourself a little each day.

So you'll need:
Undies - I've been using the meshh undies they supply. First two days was bloody hell down there so destroying their undies was fine with me. They also supply pads. I brought my own, and I haven't used one of my own yet. I use the mesh undies and a big ridiculous blue pad lol. It does the trick for now. I don't wanna bleed all over. Youll need comfy t shirts, maybe your own robe to make u comfy, socks or slippers. Absolutely snacks, unless you love hospital food. I have my own body wash, soap, tooth brush and paste and lotion. Def bring hair ties. Anything that makes you comfy.

That's really it. My biggest advice is try moving a little more each day, it helps. Push yourself to walk day 2. Also take meds about 30 minutes before you plan to go see LO. Pump right away; every two hours if u plan to BF. Get all the help u can, and ask questions. And take stool softners!

Ill be happy to answer any questions. I'm no pro, just a mommy thats been thru it.

Good luck!

Re: c/section advice

  • Thanks for posting this! Having to face a C-section this time around I'm definitely nervous and no clue what to expect. Everyone says it really isn't that bad, but I don't do well with the unknown. This helps to put me at ease and I know everything will be just fine.

Hope your recovery is going well and you are enjoying your new little girl!

I know! That's what drove me nuts; the unknown. The day of, you really feel no pain at all. The morning after is tough. You start to feel the soreness.

Ever went to the gym for the first time in a long time? The day after you were really sore? That's what it feels like.

Np. You'll do great. I think you mentioned history of anxiety right? Just try to relax, it may be hard. Once they put the curtain up you can't see what's going on, but try to talk to dh the whole time or just close your eyes and mentally put yourself somewhere else. Feeling is similar to ivf anxiety. I am totally rooting for you!

  • Great recap,. I did have a c section, but hearing it from someone who just went thru it helps. I am still worried about it, I hope it all goes well. 18 days.

  • My experience was very similar. I couldn't see any of the teams for the babies as they were shielded by the curtain. The tugging and pulling wasn't painful but I did find the pressure quite intense. However some of that may be due to the multitude of babies they had to find. And once my placenta started to detach after B came out they were in a hurry to find C. All in all it was much better that I expected!

And I agree, stay on top of your pain meds and take the stool softeners!

  • Such a helpful post! Not sure if I'm headed the csection route, but I am nervous about it, so this was helpful. Another thing to add is some people shake from the meds and its considered normal. My hairdresser just had twins via csection and warned me and I'm glad she did because that would freak me out.

Yes during the csection my arm would not stop shaking at all. I thought it was from my nerves but my aunt said its from meds. Kinda freaky
