Experiencing brown spotting for nearly 3 weeks... Thoughts?

Hi ladies, 

I am 9 weeks 6 days pregnant. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and saw the tiny embryo, but we haven't heard the heartbeat yet. We go to the doctor on Tuesday, but if I'm being honest, I'm getting impatient so I thought I would try posting in this forum. 

I have been experiencing brown discharge (sometimes clotty/stringy and a few times with red blood) since week 7. Occasionally I feel mild discomfort in my uterus "area" but I have yet to experience any period-like cramps or heavy bleeding. 

I'm just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and what the outcome was (good or bad). I appreciate your stories! This is my first pregnancy.
