Pregnant after IF

Encouragement

I hope no one minds, but I am posting here for some encouragement. After a canceled fresh cycle due to OHSS and 3 failed FETs I am beside myself. I can't sleep, I wake up in the middle of the night and cry, or worry and can't get back to bed. DH is also very discouraged and feels guilty because its MF. I think I am done with our current clinic. I made an appointment with a new RE for mid January before we do IVF again. I am scared to death and so sad thinking we might never have children, I want to be persistent and never give up but this BFN has been very hard on both of us. Last time the RE said all the pieces are there, we might need to roll the dice a few more times. 3 failures seems like a lot to me but I know there are success stories from women who have gone through much more. Words of wisdom and encouragement are so greatly appreciated at this time. I want so badly to be part of this group sometime soon!

Re: Encouragement

  • Glad you stopped by and hope you are here to stay very soon!  I haven't had the same experience you did (3 failed IUI's and 1 failed IVF) but any failure is always hard to move past.  I always think a new RE or second opinion is the way to go.  I would also look into genetic karotyping or an RPL panel.  I really think that was the answer for me- they found out I had 2 clotting disorders, took aspirin and folic acid, and a quick change in protocol helped this cycle to work.

    Keep us posted and wishing you all the best!
    Me (37) DH (39); PCOS changed to Unexplained, changed to DOR in 2012 (finally a correct diagnosis!);

  • I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you. I went through one failed iui and that practically destroyed me. Hugs. I don't have much advice other than saying finding a good RE who believes in you getting pregnant is so important and incredibly helpful. I remember my RE in passing describing MFI and treatment options saying, "You should see what we can do with one sperm!" All the best to you in this coming year and hopefully you'll be over here for good very soon!

  • (((Hugs)))) I'm sorry you had another failed cycle, it's so hard, especially when everything looks like it should work.
    PP had some great advice. A fresh set of eyes and a new approach could potentially find something that someone else missed. And a RPL panel could potentially reveal something that wasn't considered before. That with a few protocol tweaks is what worked for us. I don't know if you are OOP or what, but a new protocol for a fresh cycle could help. I'm not saying that you should give up on your frozen embies, but if you are seeking a second opinion, maybe consider starting over?

    Again, I'm so sorry. Give yourself some time to grieve and work through all these emotions. (((Hugs)))

  • All of your FETs have been from the same fresh cycle? While I don't know the specifics of your cycle, you did mention OHSS, and sometimes stimming too fast or over stimming can result in egg quality issues, so you could look into a different protocol or lower stim doses.

    Doing PGS testing could also help if it's a chromosomal issue. Have you both had karyotype testing done? (On phone so cant see your signature.). Usually that's tested after multiple miscarriages rather than failure to implant, but it's another thing you could explore.
    Married 8/2008. IVF with PGD March 2013.

  • I'm so sorry for what you are going through. It is so hard and so unfair!! I just wanted to say please do NOT ever give up hope!! I also had no issues found and suffered 3 BFN's (even with chromosomal normal embryos). I thought I was never going to be able to carry a child, for absolutely no reason. I was willing to do one more try at a new clinic, and then we were going to look into GC. Well, I am now 11 weeks pregnant. I hope this gives you a little encouragement! Keep fighting this awful fight!! It is so worth it!

    Also, have you talked to your dr. about doing an endometrial scratch? I know there are several of us on here that had multiple failed rounds and had success after the scratch. There's no way to know if that's what did it, but it certainly can't hurt!
