Trying to Get Pregnant

BBT "adjuster" website.

Hi ladies,

I've noticed a lot of discussion on time of day and temping around here, so I wanted to share this. It's my first month temping, and I've had several days where I wake up early, like middle of the night, and temp... Then fall back asleep and temp again when I wake up at my normal time (7:45), getting a different reading.

I found this website over the weekend and tried it just to see- I woke up at 4:30 am and took my temperature, got a 97.1. When I woke up at 7:45, I temped again and got a 97.7 (which was very close to what I had been getting). I then checked this site, and when I plugged in the first reading and the times it gave me 97.71 as the adjusted temp!

I still was dubious, but again last night- woke up at 5:30, got a 98.1, fell back asleep till 7:45 (now, I know this isn't the 3 hours that you're supposed to get before temping, but still) and then got a 98.5-- which is exactly what the adjuster website gave me if I put in the 98.1 and the times.

Now I'm not sure how this site does it's calculations, but it's interesting to me that it has matched up... This also makes me think that time of day might be super important, since the reading can change so much (for me, at least!). Has anyone else used this? What do you think? I haven't read TCOYF but I have heard it has a formula for adjusting temps as well?

Here's the site:

For me it was more important to have 3 solid hours of sleep vs temping at the exact same time every day.  If I were you, I'd just temp once, record it, and be done.  Then there won't be any confusion.  I'm a little skeptical about a website that will adjust any temp.  There are so many other factors at play than the number on the therm.

This certainly makes sense, but I get concerned that there was such a drastic difference... The first time when I temped at 4:30, I went back into a pretty deep sleep for over 3 hours and at 7:45 it was .6 degrees higher. If I hadn't done that, and had put in the first reading, it would have looked like a big dip. Maybe this is one of those things where people's bodies are just different... I do agree with the skepticism about the website, though. Just thought it was interesting that it seemed to be pretty accurate the couple times I used it.

  • Loading the player...
  • @MandJS I'll start doing that, I just didn't want to not temp but then not be able to get back to sleep for enough time. I also thought it was useful to check the accuracy of that website.... Maybe people who work shifts or wake up at different times frequently could benefit from it, if it seems to work for them too.

  • For me, this wouldn't work, my temps get lower the later that I take them - not sure why.

Like @lizbeth2462 I sometimes wake up early (anxiousness about temping 1st cycle?), but not so early that I'm sure I'll get another 3 hours.  For instance, I was temping at 6:00a for a few days but then kept waking up at 4:00a.  I'd try to just fall back asleep, but after a minute or two of tossing and turning I wasn't sure I'd be able to fall asleep so I would temp at 4am and then again at 6 am.  My temps at 4am are CONSISTENTLY and significantly higher than my 6am temps.  The only thing I can attribute it to is that my first half of sleep is more restless since I'm anxious to temp.  I've been using the lowest temp I get, which is usually the 6am temp.  Not sure if it's right though..

@KrissyLeighN I know what you mean! When I woke up at 4:30 I was thinking- if I don't get back to sleep in the next 15 minutes, I won't get the 3 hrs I need for my temp to be reliable so maybe I should just do it now! But then when I saw what a difference there was, it made me think that that method won't be accurate for me and I need to do it at the same time every day for it to work.

It's my first month temping too, so maybe it's just adjusting to the excitement and wanting to do it right! Glad I'm not alone with that. GL to you :)

  • @lizbeth2462 Thank you and good luck to you too!  I REALLY hope I'm less anxious/nervous next cycle, I am no good being woken that early in the morning..
