C-sections

Liquid diet the day before RCS?

I am having a RCS next Friday and was told to be on a light liquid diet the day before and no eating or drinking after 8 pm.  RCS is at 10 am the next day and I'm already worried that I'm going to be really nauseated because that happens to me when I am really hungry.  I was just wondering if others were told to follow a liquid diet the day before a c-section as well.  I don't think a liquid diet will be very filling or sustain me until the next day very well and I've been starving lately.  I don't know if it's supposed to prevent constipation/difficulty pooping or gas later (but I have had no difficulty with that my entire pregnancy, especially lately).  And how long were you told to fast before?  I'm debating whether I should really stick to only liquids the day before.

  • I've never heard of that.  Usually it's just nothing to eat after midnight.

  • Yeah, I think you should double check that with your doc and ask if that's their standard protocol? For my RCS, it was nothing after midnight but we had a HUGE "last meal" date night and are planning the same again this time.

  • I was told nothing to eat after midnight as well. With DD#1 I had and emergency csection...I had peanut butter toast 4 hours before. With DD#2 I never made it to my scheduled csection date. I had cereal 9 hours before.  Lucky enough I didn't have any complications from having eaten so close to the csections.

  • I had the no eating after midnight and hubby brought me PF Changs in the hospital for our 'last single meal'

I would call and double check.
  • Agree with others no eating after midnight for me. I made sure to have a 10pm light meal. I was so nervous/scared/anxious I wasn't hungry in the morning anyway.
  • I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted up til midnight with my last two and they were 8am scheduled c/s. This one is at 1pm but same rules

  • The only reason you are supposed to have an empty stomach is bc it's easy to get nauseated on the table when your bp drops and they don't want you choking on vomit
