Stomach bug while pregnant?

I tried looking it up on TB, but since I'm on mobile right now, it takes me to The Knot every time.
Some websites said that while pg, your immune system is very weak. Makes sense bc DS had it on Christmas Eve. I've thrown up literally 15 times today. My poor H had 3 wisdom teeth removed this morning and he has to take care of DS.
I'm sucking down water in btw nauseousness. I'm achy, so I plan on putting a heating pad on my back for a bit. Tried eating Cheerios...ughhhh.
I'll call my doctor tomorrow if I'm not feeling better.
Anything work for you besides water, bland foods and rest?

Re: Stomach bug while pregnant?

  • Once I get into a bad cycle of vomiting, the only way that I can get out of it is to have IV fluids and anti-emetics. Unfortunately, I am the type of person who will drop 10 lbs in one week from a stomach bug. I hope you don't have to go that route.

Seems like there are several stomach bugs out there. Boo. :(

  • Like @peanutmuse I needed IV and zofran with stomach bugs in pregnancy. With DD, I was actually having contractions I didn't pay attention to (because I was so sick) due to dehydration, but the fluids helped that. I would think about calling for at least some zofran today.
  • I had the flu a couple of days ago. Just try and stay hydrated. Hope you feel better soon.

  • Thank you, ladies. I didn't think about Zofran.

  • IV from dehydration if you get to that point where you start contracting. Aside from that, I was able to keep down Pedialight ice pops (yes the ones for little kids). they hydrate you and contrain electrolites that need to be replenished after barfing. good luck, that is the worst and I don't wish a stomach bug on any prego, the aboslute worst ever, i really hope yours goes away soon!
  • Same as pp, had an IV for dehydration from the stomach flu, made me feel 100x's better. Feel better soon!
  • The stomach bug I had this pregnancy required zofran (the melt in your mouth) kind.

  • There has been an extremely nasty one going around and I actually had to alternate Zofran and Phenergan to stay hydrated, and it takes something critical for me to take any medication. I ate plain brown rice cakes about 12 hours into it, and I could keep down a bite every so often. I also diluted Gatorade with water and drank as much as I could to rehydrate and replenish electrolytes. Doc didn't even require me to come in to call in the meds b/c it's so important to prevent dehydration in pregnancy. Hope you feel better very soon!
