MIL and LO Crying (rant)

edited December 2013 in May 2013 Moms
So we are on like day three of a six day visit with the MIL.  Way too long.   She is a great woman but it's too much.  The big issue I have is that she won't ever accept that LO cries.   We are having a lot of sleep issues with LO and first off he is cranky because he is tired and secondly he won't go down to sleep without some crying.  But, if she hears him crying...she makes a big deal of it and acts like it is incredibly strange and it is like an emergency situation....like  " Oh, God, what is wrong with him...WHY  is he crying?"  Like, seriously, doesn't everyone know that babies just cry sometimes. (?)

The other night, I was having a tough time putting LO down and so I passed the baton over to DH to take over.  So I take a break and put on the tv and she came running at me, and she barks at me in like a  really sharp code red voice, "Where's the baby?"  Like LO is suffering somewhere and I am a total derelict idiot who is oblivious and she needs to save him.

And the other thing is that DH and I in general split baby duty.   We both work full time from home and this is our deal.   But, every time I pass LO to DH, she takes over, which kind of pisses me off.

So rant over, she otherwise is a good woman but I know that sometimes LO just needs to let off a little steam and it feels like a pressure cooker here because I feel like I can't let him cry at all.  Ugh!e

Re: MIL and LO Crying (rant)

  • I understand. We just got back from a 6 day trip to the in laws and it was fairly good but it's just hard being stuck all together. R has his first cold and he cried because he's too stuffy for his paci and I have to use he nose sucker. He seriously cries bloody murder when that thing comes near but he needs to get that mucus out. Well I get through the worst part and then she came in to "cuddle" him because I'm so mean. Also, that long with them means DH has reverted back to being a child again. Throwing temper tantrums and making my life miserable because he has a cold too and I won't take care of him. Sorry DH, you're a grown ass man and can handle getting your own water and if you want me to run to the store he day after Christmas you need to watch R because I'm not dragging a sick baby out
