Baby Showers

Favorite Shower Favor?

Hi, Everyone! My mum is hosting my shower in February and she's graciously insisting that I'm not to do anything (fine by me!). I'd like to ask her if I can do the favors, though. I'm wondering if any of you could help me out with some ideas. I'd like to do something along the lines of something that people would use for themselves (or eat). Also, I loathe the idea of trinkets that people will just throw away. Some ideas that I'm kind of throwing around in my head are: a small homemade soy candle (I've been making these for years), a small jar of homemade blueberry lime jam, a sachet of homemade bath salts, a wildflower seed packet (I'm kind of "meh" on this idea). What would be your favorite? Any other ideas? Some things to note: the party will be average size, I guess... 30 people or less; I'm having a boy, but our style does not scream "blue, blue everywhere!"; and there will be desserts at the shower, so I don't really want to do cupcakes or cookies for favors. Thanks for your help!

  • I'd pick the jam since you make it yourself.

  • I like the jam idea. We had little jars of honey. It was a hit.

  • Thanks, guys. As soon as I finished typing I thought to myself, "I think I've already answered my own question". The jam is my favorite idea... And it's amazing. Plus, I have a crap-ton of blueberries already in my freezer from last summer.

  • I agree - edible favors are always a good choice.

  • I second the edible favor idea... Those are always my favorite. I'm curious on blueberry lime -- can you really taste the lime?

  • The lime just kind of gives it a little citrus kick. I first made it a couple of years ago and I think my mom got it out of her "Ball" canning cookbook.

  • Just my two cents, but if your mom is insisting that you don't do anything for your own shower, maybe you really shouldn't do the favors at all. Save your great ideas for the next time you host one for someone else!
  • My mum and I have a very open, zero drama relationship. I said, "hey, can I do the favors or did you have an idea already?" She said, "sure, go for it. What do you want to do?" I told her the idea of making the jam. She said, "cool, sounds good. Wanna make them together?" The end.

We have a famous produce stand that makes the most amazing blueberry lime shakes.  Yes, you can taste it, but it's not overwhelming.  Great flavor combo!!!

OP, love the jam idea.  I wish I knew how to do that!

It's actually pretty easy. I didn't know how to do it the first time, I just did it. You can follow a recipe online. You don't need a special canner to do jam, just a big pot.

Hmm. That sounds good. My grandparents grew blueberries when I was a kid, but never tried lime with it. Yum.
