Pregnant after IF

SCH / threatened miscarriage **2nd Update! So confused!!!

edited December 2013 in Pregnant after IF
I had posted earlier about our terrible Christmas so far thinking I had miscarried last night. Still bleeding and clotting and cramps. Went to the doctors today and the sac and yolk was still there and bigger but there was a large SCH that's causing the bleeding. It's not right next to the sac but the sac had moved down toward it so the doctor said it's threatening the pregnancy. My DH asked the doctor to tell us blunt if it's a 98% chance that I will miscarry but the doctor said no it's a 75% chance I can miscarry and a 25% chance the pregnancy will be okay. I am going back tomorrow morning. I also got my bw back which has gone up to over 18k from the 11k on Saturday so I am told to keep the meds the same. I'm so confused with what's going on. Any experience with SCH's and healthy pregnancies??!

**UPDATE: So I had another us this morning and the sac is still there but she couldn't find the yolk. She said though that it's just the position of it bc if the sac is still there then the yolk is still there. I would have felt a little better if I could have seen it. She said if I miscarried then the whole sac would be gone. So she said she's really nervous bc the sac has moved down and is right above my cervix and she thinks it may be a matter of time before I miscarry. However she also said she's seen a few pregnancies where this happened and the baby continued to grow and stay there until the bleed resolved itself. I am waiting for the call about my bw to check my levels to see if they rises and the baby is still growing or if the levels stayed the same or went down. The bleeding is still happening but it's slowed down since yesterday. I am going back in on Saturday but she said if I start bleeding heavy to come in. I hate this limbo crap! I'm so upset. So I will just continue the bed rest and drink lots of water. Not much else I can do. This is terrible to just sit here and have to wait it out. I know you girls posted about your SCH's. Any of you also had your sac pushed down toward your cervix and you were still unaffected!?

**2nd update: Talked to my doctor and she told me my beta went down from 18k yesterday to 6k today. She is completely confused bc she sees the intake sac and yolk sac from my us today. She said if my beta dropped that drastically normally I would have miscarried the pregnancy and a sac wouldn't have been seen on the screen. She said there's a slight chance that maybe there was two sac's in the beginning and the second one wasn't caught in the first us and I lost that one and the one we see is still viable. Crazy! Or she said it's just a matter of time before I miscarry the one if that's not the case. I am going back on Saturday to see what's going on. She said if I miscarry we are going to do a recurring miscarriage work up to check me first. Otherwise she said she thinks it may be a genetic problem with the embryos. We only have 3 embryos left so the sucky part is she said if we do genetic testing she would rather do it on a fresh cycle so now it's been brought up that we may have to do another cycle from the beginning! I can't even wrap my head around all of this. We had 9 embryos when we started and now I may have to do another cycle, and out of pocket completely now. My head is just spinning.

Re: SCH / threatened miscarriage **2nd Update! So confused!!!

  • First off, huge hugs to you and your H! SCH is so scary, the timing only makes it worse with the holidays. Hang in there.
I only had a small bleed at around 6 weeks, it did resolve itself, as do most SCHs. The frustrating part is there is really not much they can do other than put you on bedrest, tell you to drink lots of fluid, and wait and see. AJC&Maggie had a large/long bleed and everything has been ok with her. Maybe she will have some insight for you. I know there are many more that have had to deal with it too.
I will be keeping you, your h and your little bean in my T&P. I really am hoping for the best for you! ((((Hugs)))) again.

  • I'm so sorry you are going through all of this on Christmas. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. But if it's any reassurance, I had 3 schs all around the sac early in my pregnancy discovered around week 6. I was out on bed rest because if they merged together, a mc would be likely. Like twist and turns said, avoid any strenuous activities, rest and put your feet up. Drink a ton of water. I am praying for you and hoping for the best!

  • I'm sorry! SCHs suck and are so scary. My first pregnancy I had a larger one and this pregnancy a Smaller one. All of the advice here is what I would repeat... Keep your feet up, don't lift anything over 5lbs., no sexy time and drink that water. Fwiw- I literally had a friend bleed so much at 16w that she had a blood transfusion. • Ugh...I'm so relieved you didn't miscarry! I read your post earlier and my initial thought was hopefully this is an sch...I had an sch with my last pregnancy and the sch did not post problems.,,,I had an incredibly complex twin pregnancy and it did not end well but the sch was pesky but did not n anyway impact the pregnancy other than scaring the crap out of me. Actually my Mfm could care less about the sch...she said she did her thesis on them and most resolve. They are Scary and I'm sorry you are going through this. I ended up in the ER several times and the ER doctors lives to use the term threatened miscarriage but our Mfm did not see it that way. I'm sure every situation is different but I hope and pray you get through this with no more scares! It may have to bleed out If not absorbed just a heads up.

  • Oh man!! This has been a crazy ride for you. Thanks for the 2nd update. I keep checking back to see how you are. Please rest and at least there is sort of plan for the future if it comes to another cycle. Feel free to reach out if you choose to try PGS (genetic screening for chromosomal abnormality). We did that along with PGD. Hang in there, you are doing an amazing job waiting!!
