at what age do babies have awake time?

What age were your LO's when they started having "awake" time?  L will spend maybe 3-5 min awake before she starts screaming for food (and she will root during those 3-5 min if she's being held!)  I guess I feel like we're still in the "asleep or hungry" phase, and I'm wondering when to expect a transition...

  • LO is almost 5 weeks and he just started having awake time this week.

  • Mine is 4 weeks 4 days but he's been doing it since 2 weeks. It started off being very short now it's up to 2 hrs. I really wish he would sleep more so I could actually clean house. :-)
  • Goodness... for us, it's just beginning. My LO is 9.5 weeks old and gets about 15 minutes of awake time after eating. Otherwise, he sleeps and eats still.

Don't try to force awake time. Sleep is good for them. Trying to keep them awake for playing will likely backfire.

  • My little guy is 4 weeks 5 days and he has about an hour of "awake" time after each meal BUT he is extra grumpy at the end of that hour.
  • My LO is a lil over 7 weeks and he usually has an hour of awake time a day. It's been that way for 3-4 weeks probably.  You'd think I'd get a lot done since he sleeps so much but he's usually on/by me.
  • I try to follow the EASY method. Eat, Activity, Sleep, You. At this point, activity might be some songs with her big sister or tummy time or hanging out in the carrier while I wash dishes. I've noticed she has the best awake time in the later morning.

  • Our LO is 7.5 weeks and has been awake a lot during the day since 6 weeks. Sometimes 3 hours in a row then 20 min nap then awake again. Unfortunately he is like his mama and not a big napped...but he is usually pretty happy so it's not so bad!
  • We tend to have a couple hours of awake time in the morning then a 4 hourish nap (with a feeding in the middle) then a few more hours of awake time then a smaller evening nap. Then awake for a bit and off to bed. This started at about 5-6 weeks. And he's still up about every 2 hours at night to eat.
  • I would say 4 or 5 weeks it started- but it was shorter periods (maybe 15-30 minutes).  Now that's he's 7 weeks it's an hour or two of awake time.  He usually just hangs out in his rock 'n play for most of it- with me singing/making faces/acting crazy to him.  Those baby smiles and laughs melt me.
