So My pressures have been  just riding along the 140's over 80's for the last month, with protein in my urine. I had labs drawn last week and my creatinine clearance was not great.. So basically I'm just skirting along with pre-e ride, which I've done with both my prior pregnancies as well. So today my initial pressure was 152/91.  A few minutes later after sitting and resting on a manual its 149/89.  Urine again positive. She asks me how I'm feeling, to which I tell her, the same I've been for the last three weeks. Daily headaches, seeing stars, and now to top it off I've been nauseated the past few days.  Her response: Well, when you feel a headache, or have elevated pressures over 145/85 you need to call us.

Soooo smart ass me makes a phone with my hand and respond "Hey doc, my blood pressure is high and I have a headache".  She looks at me blankley, and I then say well, It's true. I've been telling you this for three weeks and well, here I am, Still pregnant, still feeling sick.  I don't know why you wan't me to call if your not going to do anything except run more labs.  She had zero response except an apologetic look on her face.. and then said that she wants to run more labs on Monday and wants to see me then instead of my already scheduled appointment next Thursday. Thanks doc.

Update: So after thinking about this more and more all day, I've decided that next time I have a pressure spike or major headache, we're just going into Triage.

  • @wilburbud Your response to her was hilarious. I love you. I'm sorry your OB is a flippin' moron. And she totally proved your point right - ordering more labs.

  • I'm so glad you called her on it. Sometime I feel like my OB is not listening and just talking. :)

  • Wow, that's ridiculous.  I mean, what more evidence does your OB need to diagnose your pre-e and come up with a plan to move forward?  Love your response, she really seems like something else.

  • It's like talking to a brick wall sometimes!

  • @wilburbud, ugh that is such a freaking pain in the ass. This is very, very similar to my situation. I totally feel your pain. My dr tells me to call under the same circumstances, but then will act like "why the hell are you calling, what do you want me to do about it?" when I do call. But then when I go for a week without calling and my pressures are high while I'm in the office, she'll say "why didn't you call?" Well, because you make me feel like ass when I call and don't do anything to help me.

I am seriously considering switching OBs after this pregnancy.
  • @wilburbud. My girl crush grows stronger on u!!!! What an amaze balls response!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sorry you are feeling like crap :/
  • That was an awesome response. I am so sorry your OB is a effing idiot.

JFC, OB. Get with the program. Maybe on Monday you should be like - "So, are you waiting for me to go full on pre-e before we induce this baby or what?"
I REALLY think they are. They did this with Grace as well, until I arrived in Triage because i was intense upper quadrant pain. I was due April 8th, scheduled for induction April 2nd (at the pivitol 39 weeks) and arrived in triage on the 28th of March for emergent induction.

Maybe instead of calling your OB you could just head to L&D and see what the attending OB and/or nurse thinks the next time your symptoms bother you? Why did you go with the same OB again if you ended up in Triage? She sounds awful... I don't want you go into full blown pre-e!

I think the most frustrating thing is that my office is a group practice- there are about 15 midwives, and 10 doctors. Every time you go, you get a different opinion. Some are quick to jump, and some are super conservative. I tried like hell to schedule my appointment this morning and next week with one of the more quick to jump midwives, and of course they are booked solid.  Im scheduled with a really conservative doctor next week. My plan is to call the office with every headache and blood pressure spike, which is going to be REALLY fun for them considering its going to be Christmas.

I was just going to suggest this. Annoy the crap out of them. Sorry your OB is being an idiot and that you have to feel awful over Christmas.

  • Wow. I'm sorry that your doctor is being that way. I hope that she gets her shit together and does something for you so you don't need to suffer any longer than you have to.

  • Sorry your OB is so frustrating.  Love your response though and would have loved to see the look on her face.  I agree with calling them with every pressure spike and headache or just bypassing them all together and going to L&D.  Do you know what day the more quick to act docs are in the hospital?  (I know at my group practice they each have a set day at the hospital) If I were you, I would just show up at L&D on the day I know one of them is there who will actually do something about it.

  • What an ass of an OB! I'm so sort you're dealing with this! I would annoy the crap out of them or go into L&D for another opinion. Love the snarky response on your part though!

  • In case this can make you feel better...
I've had the same thing happening since I was 28 weeks.  Basically, what I have learned is that your BP can be elevated as long as it comes back down.  Like, if you relax for a little bit and take it again and it has decreased, you are ok.  But if you take it and see it is elevated, wait and relax, and then take it again and it has gone up again, then you should go ahead to triage.  Make sense?
As for the protein in the urine, it can be present for a lot of reasons, but it depends on the levels whether or not they need to take immediate action.  So that's why they usually do soooooo many tests.  They should also be testing a few other things, like your liver enzymes, to see if immediate action is needed.
I am not a doctor, just saying what my experience has been and how my doctor is handling it.  Hope that helps ease your mind a bit.

  • Yay! I'm glad you decided to bypass your crazy OB and go straight to L&D. At least you will know for sure then.
