Very nervous.

I mentioned this in another thread but I'm so anxious about it. Any advice or support would be appreciated.

I'm leaving for the USA in 9 days!!! I'm so happy that my friends and family will get to meet my baby!! However the idea of a very long plane trip is terrifying as Is making the baby's days into nights etc. At the moment, all I have going for me in the sleep department is that he likes to go to bed around 6-7pm and wake up around 6-7am.

We are currently visiting the in laws. My lo's schedule is so messed up and they only live 3 hours away by car. He will barely nap, he's over stimulated, it's 90 degrees with no AC, he's teething and was constipated. Not to mention getting up very often at night. It is stressful as hell here. I've been trying to keep to his schedule but being in a different environment with me faces has him wired. What am I going to do when I get him to the USA?

I'm so stressed out :(. I so badly want my family and friends to see him and enjoy him. I'm so scared it's going to be a disaster.

  • One thing I try to remember is that it's better for everyone to go in a quiet room for an hour with LO than to have a cranky baby. Your friends and family will have just as fond memories even if the amount of time they see LO is slightly less so you can nurse/nap/or just settle LO down for a bit.

  • Good luck! How long will you be in the US? Long enough for LO to change schedules? I hope the flight goes well!

  • We had Family Christmas yesterday. My in-laws were bragging about how LO always woke up in a good mood (which he does sometimes, but definitely not always) of course he woke up screaming every time. You know what, everybody thought he was just the cutest baby anyway. Just do the best you can.

What helped me was being assertive and taking LO and announcing it was time for a nap or time to eat. If I hadn't just taken him away from people, he wouldn't have slept all day because they just kept passing him around and none of them know his schedule or cues.
  • Thanks for the words of encouragement. I really NEED them. We have been up every 1-2 hours for a few nights. We haven't even switched hemispheres yet. I guess it can't get any worse in the sleep department...I hope I didn't just jinx myself.
  • Good luck! Hopefully the flight goes well and if LO struggles to adjust and keeps you up at night, you at least have the family there to take care of him/her so you can take a nap ;)
