Is it worth an infection for a few seconds if joy?!
I am just asking out of curiosity. Maybe I posted this on the wrong forum; I toggle between here, C-section, and the 0-3 month threads. I read a post where this topic of sex before 6 weeks was discussed and it made me curious about protection.
I am a C-Section mom so I wouldn't without Dr permission since I do not know the risks involved with incision, etc.

I don't know about the incision but I know there's a gaping wound where your placenta used to be. Not worth the risk of infection, like St. Lucia wife said.
Your doc isn't going to give you BCP until your check-up anyway so I would think condoms are your only viable option.
Err. I'm with the general consensus here, but I believe OP is right- there was a thread in N '13 with some hornballs who had already done it. I think there was, at least. Since I hemorrhaged after my vaginal delivery, I'm definitely waiting for doc's approval.
Its not uncommon to have sex before 6wks, yes the only contraception is condom. A lot of OBs use the phrasing "no sex until bleeding has completely subsided, while bleeding it still means you're an open wound" Some women bleed for 2weeks and some for over 6.

Me, my FP colleagues and the OBs at my hospital routinely give pills (if this is the desired form of contraception by the woman) to be started at 4 weeks (combination pills if FF) or 6 weeks (mini pill if BFing) and they are given with the other discharge meds. We are military so it's not that people will skip the recommended 6 week appt d/t cost, but some dont' come back in a timely manner so they are covered. If you aren't bleeding it isn't a big deal if you feel up to it, by definition postpartum endometritis occurs in the first 10 days. Many docs/MWs do not do a pelvic exam at the 4 (some MWs recommend) or 6 week appt if you aren't due for a pap, didn't have a 3rd/4th degree tear and aren't having a problem so there is no magic about 6 weeks.
I'll be honest and we didn't wait 6 weeks after any of our children and I know I am not the only one. I have the mini pill but haven't started it yet, I EBF and didn't get a period for 16/14mo so the odds of getting pregnant this month seem slim but yes, is always a risk.

My nurse In the hospital outright said she had sex 3 w pp, and that if we were going to I should be on top to put less strain on the incision. so I don't think it's THAT uncommon. Condoms or pull out..those are the options.
FWIW I thin its more common with a C than with vaginal deliveries.
