I was told the other day I tested positive for gbs. I just looked it up and now I'm freaking out.
Did anyone else have GBS? Did it cause complications in delivery or babies?

  • They will give you antibiotics while you are in labor.  All should be great with the baby!

  • I have had it with all 3 deliveries, no issues with any of my 4 kids, but was induced and got antibiotics each time.

  • Once in labour you'll get a dose of IV antibiotics every 4 hours until baby is born. If you don't get the antibiotics they'll monitor baby for at least 24 hours, and give baby antibiotics if there are any signs babe has gotten the GBS.

It usually doesn't cause any issues, though it can if there are no antibiotics.

  • I've had it with two of my deliveries. With DS my water broke and as soon as I got to L&D they hooked me up to IV antibiotics. They usually want the IV in you at least 4 hours before delivery and I knew I wasn't going to make it. I was literally doing everything I could think of to hold off from pushing. That bag finished and the nurse unhooked me as I was hopping in the tub to deliver. No problems. It's very common, don't freak yourself out. Just take the proper steps to minimize complications.

NO twin experience yet but I did have it with all my singletons and only with DS3 was I able to get the medication in time (within minutes of his arrival). My other two came too quick. All of them were fine. My water broke right before I pushed them out so they had minimal time to be exposed to anything in the birth canal.  The biggest risk factor is if there is a long duration between Ruptured membranes and birth but even in that scenario they would be giving you antibiotics so the risk is really minimal either way.  It is not something to really worry about. The only difference between  you and someone who did not test + is that they will give you the antiobiotics during labor. It is no big deal at all. Takes about 30min to administer through the IV.

Sorry hun. That is why you are under careful monitoring. You have lots of eyes on you and the babies! It will be ok.
