OPKs help

Sorry if this is a dumb question...

I am using the Wondfo OPKs and the instructions say to use a glass or plastic cup for urine collection. I have been using paper Dixie bathroom cups because I already had them. Is this OK?

Also, how long do you need to wait for room temperature urine and is it really necessary?  I'm pretty sure I am not waiting long enough. Once I fill the cup, I want to put the stick in right away!

Re: OPKs help

  • I also used the Dixie cups. I have not done this in a long time but I didn't know you had to wait till room temp? God I sound like a newb.  I'm no help :)

Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive.  Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)

  • So...with warm urine and Dixie cups, did you get positive OPKs? If so, I will feel better :-)
  • Yes I did :)

  • Never heard of either. Interested to know the reasons for that. The only thing I can think of for not using the paper cups is that they are coated with wax and maybe it can interfere.
I always dip my wondfo right in, never waited for room temp urine. I use plastic cups and get positives.

  • Yes, instructions say room temp urine and glass or plastic cup. Since it comes out warm I guess they want you to wait for it to cool? But if nobody else worries about that, I won't either! I did also wonder if the wax coating on the paper cup might somehow interfere with the test.
  • There are directions?
     I am kidding...

    lurking from ttcal...

I also use the Dixie paper cups and have not had any problems with them -- I have gotten numerous positives.

I also dip with fresh warm pee and again have not had any problems getting a positive.

As for the room temperature, I don't know for sure, but my guess would be if you were refrigerating your urine and testing with it later. Then it would need to be at room temperature? I think I just found an opk experiment I'm going to have to try ;)

My blog, I have a couple of good sections devoted to OPK's. Feel free to visit them here:

  • I apologize if this question is silly, but I've never seen it answered elsewhere.... Using Wondfos, is there a reason you can't just pee right on the stick (instead of dipping the stick into a cup of pee)? TIA!
  • @fernshep - it's not advised to pee directly on the stick because of the "Max line" - you don't want to get urine past that line and invalidate the test. There are some who are able to pee directly on the stick and not get urine past the line, but I bet those peeps are few and far between!

Me, I use a plastic cup, warm pee and get positives.  No issues whatsoever - never thought to wait for the urine to be "room temperature".

Don't worry, I'm working on it.
