Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Nose Frida

I broke down and ordered one last night. The problem is, I have a SERIOUS aversion to snot - it's the only thing in the world that totally grosses me out and I'm gagging just thinking about it. I'm nervous about using my mouth to suck snot out of DS's nose. I know it has a little filter in there, but I'm scared that even a tiny little droplet of snotlet will tickle the tip of my tongue and I'll end up projectile vomiting all over my baby's face. For those of you that use the Nose Frida - how is it? I'm hoping that the fact that I'm dealing with my own son's snot will make it more tolerable. It's not like I'm sucking the snot out of a strangers face.

Re: Nose Frida

  • I've never had anything come close to the filter, and we've used it practically everyday since LO was born.
  • Loading the player...
  • I love it and trust me unless they have a shit ton of buggers up there it's getting no where near your mouth!

  • You'll do great.  This thing is amazing and snot wont come close to your mouth let alone the filter!

  • It's the only thing that works for us because my daughter's nostrils are so tiny, but she absolutely hates it when I use it so I try not to do it often.  Unfortunately she's had congestion for over a month and got even more sick in the past week so I've been using it once or twice a day.  The concept is pretty gross, but other people are right that it never gets past the tip, although one time I did notice a weird taste in my mouth afterwards that kind of grossed me out.

  • I was afraid of the same thing. However, LO had a bad runny nose for 2 weeks and the aspirator was just not cutting it. We broke down and bought the Nose Frida from Babies R Us. My only disappointment was with myself...why did I not buy it sooner?! The snot only goes up about an inch in the tube (the tube is about 5 or 6 inches long...plus there is a filter between the snot and you.) It worked so much better than any aspirator. A few drops of saline solution and the Nose Frida worked wonders for her cold!! We never noticed the weird taste the above poster referred to.
  • I just ended up sick, might be from using it? not sure. I guess change your filters often as that is supposed to help!

  • When we first heard about the Nose Frida, we thought the concept was just ... wrong...on so many levels - but after getting one as a baby shower gift and using it on T when she got sick at 3mos, it's become by far, the best gift that anyone's gotten us.  So indispensable, that it's now on our "must give" list for expecting friends.  Snot NEVER reaches me, and the sense of instant gratification from actually seeing how much you can pull out of their tiny noses makes their crying and fussing totally worth it.  The only drawback is the learning curve - you really have to get used to applying steady suction (without passing out), but once you get the hang of it, it'll be one of those things that you can't live without, especially when they're sick.
  • We got one recently and swear by it! Using it gives us anxiety bc LO screams from it so much but am seriously I've never seen so much snot in a baby. He's having a hard time feeding bc congestion so it's helped. I love how well it works with saline.
  • I haven't purchased one yet, but from reading these posts, it looks like I need to!

  • I got one with my 2nd kid.  He had RSV and was hospitalized at 1 week.  I works so freakin' well and is fast.  I thought it was absolutely gross when a friend told me about it but truly, I've never felt any grossness using it.

Or, you know, it's winter and germs get passed around easy. And also you are kissing on your LO and what not.

Also, the regular snot suckers are very well known for being full of mold after awhile if not cared for really carefully.  You really have to boil and or bleach the heck out of those things.  With the Nose Frida you just pop off the clear nose end from the clear tubing and filter end and wash it.  Germ free every single time I use it.

  • Love the nose frida and have never been remotely close to getting snot in my mouth. This thing works great-you would be surprised at how much stuff you get out of baby's nose!
  • I LOVE the nose frida.. the first time I used it I gagged.. like oh God what could be worse than this thing.. but it works like a CHARM - I probably use it everyday now :) Boogers don't even get into it most of the time.. I get them close enough to the edge and get a boogie wipe and away they go! If one does go into the Frida its like on the very edge of the blue sucker tube part (very far from the filter) never has anything gone even half way down the blue tube to the filter :) So NO worries!!! :D
  • Obsessed. Don't think about how gross it is. Just think about how its helping your baby. It also has a filter so it doesn't get in your mouth.

When I told my DH about it he gagged a little. Who knew I would be so excited about something that sucks snot out of LO's nose! :)

  • I am also one who gags at the thought of snot.  However, I had heard the Freda was amazing from my sister in-law and broke down and bought one.  I swear by this thing!!  We have not had any infections/congestion.  I use it almost daily, but once I hear a cough or sniffles setting I use it constantly (before every meal and nap).  There are times it gross's me out but I'll do whatever I have to to keep my little guy feeling top notch.  It's amazing the things you all of a sudden are able to handle once you're a mom!
