I'm guessing they're going around everywhere 'cause 'tis the season. I've been fighting off one that starts with an extreme sore throat and progresses into cough, headache, congestion, aches, all that good stuff. It seems everyone around here is taking about 2 weeks to fight it off and many are ending in ear infections, sinus infections, and bronchitis. Seeing as how it's viral, antibiotics do nothing until you reach that point. At day 7, I got red, angry sores on the back of my tongue and throat. I've NEVER had this happen before and they hurt like hell. Doc says it's probably due to lowered immune system thanks to pregnancy but still sounds viral (no signs of strep). I've used my humidifier, Olbas oil, gargled salt water, drink insane amounts of water and tea with honey, and try to rest. Has anyone else had the sores pop up?? Also, anyone have any other home remedies they've found successful at beating the cold while pregnant?
ETA: I have already spoken to my midwife and she suggests home remedies like these to ease my symptoms and keep infection from developing as I def don't have any yet. You just have to let these things run their course and make yourself comfy (don't want anyone to think I'm trying to substitute proper medical care). I couldn't find a previous post on this but if I missed it, I apologize!
Re: Talk to me about these winter colds...
Feel better!
I'm a believer in steamy showers, followed by slathering myself with Vicks Vaporub on my neck, chest and back. I'll throw on some flannel PJs and crawl into bed. I usually start to feel better in the morning.
