TTC after 35

Introduction

Hi everyone, I wanted to do a quick intro on this board in addition to the one I posted on the Infertility board.

DH and I had been TTC naturally on and off for several reasons since 2005 when I was 32. I naively believed everyone that said I had plenty of time, so when we were really trying, I did get more and more frustrated that it should've been happening and wasn't.  Finally in 2012 after consistently trying for a while with no luck we started testing. We found out DH has high volume but low motility & morphology. We did 3 rounds of IUI with no luck. The 3rd failed attempt was particularly hard because we really really thought we had it that time.

We took another break because we moved again. Once we settled in I admit I took longer than I probably should have because I was scared to start IVF.  I was using moving and having to find docs closer to home to as a good excuse to hold off starting the process. And that's really when more negative thoughts hit me about my age. I would constantly calculate how old me & DH would be when the kid was 10, and 18, and graduating college and on and on. I was in a really bad space, very annoyed that this was my life and that it was not going to be an easy route.

My first meeting with the RE made me feel so much better. He was realistic but hopeful. I still have my bad days but I'm working on turning the negative thoughts into more positive ones so I don't become completely bitter.  I'm now in the 2WW of my first IVF cycle and am trying to stay focused on non baby stuff to get through it.

These boards have been really helpful in many ways, but the biggest is that I'm not alone in all this.

  • Welcome. Your strory is similiar to mine.  I kept finding every excuse not to do IVF cuz I was down right scard of it.  We moved as well about a year ago and that was the perfect time for me to put the breaks on once again.  Looking back post first IVF this past Oct, I feel so mad at myself for all the time I waisted on something that really wasn't so bad to deal with.

Best of luck to you! I hope you get your BFP and continue on for a HH 9months.  Keep us posted on your progress.
